Widower ‘devastated’ after wedding rings stolen in Newport burglary

A Newport man is distraught after his late wife’s wedding rings were stolen from his home in Melbourne’s west as police appeal for information.

Detectives are appealing for public assistance after rings belonging to a Newport man’s late wife were stolen in a burglary earlier this year.

The man returned home after a short holiday on January 11 to discover a number of items had been stolen between January 1 and January 11.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the widower had been left “devastated” by the break in, with detectives hoping someone may recognise the distinctive rings.

“The three rings have great sentimental value and two have ‘the luckiest’ engraved in them,” she said.

“Investigators have released a photograph of the stolen rings in the hope someone may recognise them. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.”

Detectives from Hobsons Bay crime investigation unit are investigating the burglary, in which the rings were stolen alongside tools, electronics and collectable figures.
