Dylan Dunn-Carney: Bendigo man charged over alleged armed robbery

A Central Victorian man allegedly robbed a petrol station with a sawn-off shotgun just days before he was raided by elite special operations officers.

How do juries decide a verdict?

A Jackass Flat’s man allegedly robbed a petrol station at gunpoint in Central Victoria.

Dylan Dunn-Carney, 28, appeared before the Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday facing a string of charges including armed robbery, discharging a firearm and reckless conduct endangering life.

Prosecutors have alleged Mr Dunn-Carney robbed a BP service station with a sawn-off shotgun on Peg Leg Rd in Eaglehawk on October 7 last year.

Police say a weapon was fired during the alleged incident about 7.20pm, however the male staff member was not injured and Mr Dunn-Carney allegedly made off with $300.

He was arrested at his Jackass Flats home five days later by officers from the Armed Crime Squad working with the Special Operations Group.
A firearm was allegedly seized at the property despite Mr Dunn-Carney allegedly being prohibited from owning firearms.

In court, prosecutor Emma Fargher said the office of public prosecutions were waiting on outstanding forensic analysis including ballistics and DNA evidence.

Mr Dunn-Carney’s lawyer, Jack Dalziel, requested the matter be adjourned to a later date, saying defence was working on a plea offer, but negotiations had not concluded.

“At this point the facts are not settled,” he said.

“One way or another I’d ask for an adjournment subject to your honour’s discretion.”

Mr Dunn-Carney was remanded in custody ahead of his next court appearance on March 2 for a committal mention.
