An Ascot Vale man has died in hospital two weeks after he was hit by a car while cycling in Altona.
The cyclist had been riding along Kororoit Creek Rd at about 11.45am on September 11 when he was struck by a vehicle, sustaining life-threatening injuries.
The 57-year-old was rushed to hospital but died from his injuries 13 days later on September 24.
A Victoria Police spokesman said the circumstances surrounding the death were still under investigation but the driver, a 48-year-old from Point Cook, stopped to render assistance.
“The exact circumstances surrounding the collision are yet to be determined and Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating,” he said.
“Anyone with information, dashcam or CCTV footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.”
Eight cyclists have lost their lives on Victorian roads so far this year, with two occurring in Melbourne’s western suburbs.
Since 2012, there have been 12 cyclists killed and 370 hospitalised on roads throughout the west, leading a cycling advocacy group to introduce a new tool to track near-misses.
