A unique Salvation Army property in the heart of Warrnambool will soon be sold for almost $2 million.
Harris and Wood Real Estate founding partner and estate agent Danny Harris said the preferred bidder for the rare Lava St property, decided by the Salvation Army, was secured this week.
It is expected the buyer will sign a contract by the end of the week.
“We ran an expression of interest campaign which finished on March 29 — we were quoting $1.2m and we had multiple offers above $2m,” Mr Harris said.
The property includes a large chapel building, a residential home and a pop-up kebab shop with a gravel car pack at the back of the area.
The property received six bids in total.
“The expression of interests were a mix of not-for-profit organisations, local and metro-based investors and developers.
“It’s not a common site given that it’s 4,000-metres squared.”
Mr Harris said the property “straddles a really high value residential area” and was a popular commercial precinct.
“Because of the place of worship they’ve got there such as the chapel — we were unsure whether or not going into the process whether or not people would see that as an impediment or something that added value,” he said.
The Salvation Army in Warrnambool is yet to move their business to another area, which is currently under construction.
