A small coastal town in Victoria’s southwest could soon be home to a housing estate if development plans are approved by council.
The proposed plan, submitted to Moyne Shire Council, is to subdivide a parcel of land on MacGillivray Rd in Peterborough into 21 lots.
The tourist stop on the Great Ocean Road is a small town with a population of about 250 to 300 people.
Real Estate Agent David Falk sold the land on March 23 last year.
He said it was “positive” that a residential lot could be developed in the town.
“There’s still good inquiry there for blocks — and I think as far as the town — it does need some more blocks available,” Mr Falk said.
“There’s not a lot on the market so it should be a very positive plan of attack, I think.
“In wintertime it’s fairly sleepy hollow, but summertime comes alive and is very vibrant — there’s swimming and Peterborough has got a lot of different beaches — and of course you’ve got fishing and surfing so there’s a lot of different options.”
Mr Falk said Peterborough was a “great little spot”.
“You’ve got Port Campbell and then Warrnambool just up the road, Timboon and the interlands of the Otways — it is a lovely spot,” he said.
Mr Falk also said there was a development plan for a 13 lot subdivision in Port Campbell in the future that was currently before council.
“Hopefully that will be approved too, which will be very good for Port Campbell because there really is nothing for sale in the town,” Mr Falk said.
The majority of the homes in Peterborough are not lived in permanently and are holiday homes or Airbnbs.
If approved, the subdivision there would remove some of the existing native vegetation to create an access road.
The plan will be brought to Moyne Shire Council at a meeting later this year.
