Late in the season, we revealed our top women’s footy players from across regional Victoria.

OUR LIST

Women’s footy continues to go from strength to strength across Victoria.

Participation numbers are on the incline and pathways from top to bottom are strengthening local competitions throughout the state.

We take a look at the players who are starring for their local teams in our list of the best women’s local footy players.

Paige Baksh, Echuca (Northern Country)

Baksh enjoyed another dominant season with 52 goals as Echuca went onto win the flag.

Kim Bessell, Darley (Ballarat)

Been a gun forward in the competition for a few years. Last year she kicked 122 goals and this year she has kicked 57 goals in 15 matches. Been key to Darley’s success in the competition.

Georgia Blaby, Cardross (Millewa)

Having a fantastic season for the Lions and should win their best and fairest. Has been among the best players in nine of 12 games and kicked eight goals.

Jess Bokma, Redan (Ballarat)

The leading goalkicker for the Lions this year, kicking 33 goals in 16 games. The past two seasons the key forward has kicked 51 goals in each year.

Bianca Bourke, Marong (Central Victoria)

Bourke has enjoyed a really strong season for her side with 11 mentions in the best.

Kasey Camera, Gol Gol (Millewa)

The leading goalkicker in the competition with 25 goals from nine games. Been one of the best players for the Hawks, being in the best in six of nine games.

Amanda Carrod, Sandhurst (Central Victoria)

Returned to the footy field this year and has been one of the dominant players in the competition with 35 goals and 10 mentions in the best.

Jessie Cartledge, East Point (Ballarat)

One of the best defenders in the game who returned to the Dragons this season. Last year, she was named as the best full back in the game in the team of the year. Has played 14 games this season.

Tiahna Cochrane, Castlemaine (Central Victoria)

Cochrane has found more consistency in her availability this season and has gone onto become one of her side’s most important players.

Amy Collins, Wangaratta Rovers (North East Border)

Played for North East Border in interleague after a great season with the Rovers. Collins kicked nine goals and was among the best players in seven of 14 games.

Lilli Condon, Darley (Ballarat)

The pocket rocket continues to be a star in the competition. Been among the best in 12 of 13 games and is almost averaging a goal a game. Finished second in last year’s Ballarat best and fairest.

Kiara Cooper, Nathalia (Northern Country)

A dominant season in front of goal with 53 majors in 11 games.

Samantha Creasy, Lavington (North East Border)

Been a key player for Lavington for years and been among the best in six of 13 games. Last year she co-captained interleague, which returned for the first time since Covid.

Jaye Dalgleish, Darley (Ballarat)

A talented midfielder who has been among the best in the competition for three clubs in four years. In 2021 she won the best and fairest of the competition with Sebastopol before finishing third last year with Lake Wendouree. This year, for Darley, she been among the best in 10 of 12 games.

Mardi Dangerfield, Geelong Ammos (AFL Barwon)

The premiership Ammo plays through the midfield but is also incredibly impactful as a high half forward.

Amber Davis, Moe Newborough (Gippsland)

Has returned to the footy field and became one of her team’s most important players.

Lucy Dawe, Nagambie (Northern Country)

Dawe built on a promising 2023 after taking her game to another level.

Lucy Della Monica, St Mary’s (AFL Barwon)

The Saints captain at 19, Della Monica is a regular in their best playing as a midfield/small forward. Has an elite kick and high football IQ.

Kate Dixon, Echuca (Northern Country)

The former VFLW player added plenty of class to her side with 21 goals and 10 mentions in the best.

Laura Downes, Cavendish (Western Victoria)

Been the best player in a tough year for the side. Has been in the best players in seven of nine games.

Isabella Farchione, Barwon Heads (AFL Barwon)

The Seagulls’ captain, Farchione is one of her team’s most consistent midfield performers. An ex-VAFA player, she played a handful of VFLW games at Diamond Creek.

Michelle Fedele, Barwon Heads (AFL Barwon)

In her first season at Barwon Heads, the ex-Geelong VFLW captain is a key forward target, kicking 19 goals from 13 appearances.

Janessa Fitzgerald, Grovedale (AFL Barwon) 

The Tigers’ ruck has been a regular in the minor premiers’ best each week.

Angela Fisher, Lavington (North East Border)

A leading goalkicker in the competition. Has kicked 22 goals in eight games after also playing for Ganmain Grong Grong Matong in New South Wales earlier this season.

Asha Foubister, Mansfield (Northern Country)

The former Murray Bushranger was a key recruit and one of the competition’s leading young guns. Played interleague in a season where she kicked 19 goals and was named in the best 10 times.

Emily Galtieri, Bendigo Thunder (Central Victoria)

In her first season with the Thunder, Galtieri has emerged as arguably her side’s best player, after being named in the best 11 times.

Amy Garofalo, Bacchus Marsh (Ballarat)

The skipper has been one of the best for the Cobras this year. The forward has kicked 23 goals in 14 games and been in the best players in 11 of them.

Carly Geary, Golden Square (Central Victoria)

Geary came back to the club at the start of the season and has gone onto make a significant impact with nine mentions in the best.

Bella Gilham, St Joseph’s (AFL Barwon)

The Geelong Falcons’ graduate has kicked 47 goals across both the senior and U19 competitions this year.

Gabrielle Goldsworthy, Lavington (North East Border)

Won last year’s best and fairest and has helped the team to make the grand final this season. Has been in the best players in five of 10 games.

Eloise Gretgrix, Castlemaine (Central Victoria)

One of the most dominant goalkickers in the competition across the last two seasons. Gretgrix has been a key to her side’s premiership push.

Chelsea Hall, Rumbalara (Northern Country)

Hall enjoyed a consistent season for her side, emerging as one of Rumba’s most important players.

Brodi Harris, Lindenow South (Gippsland)

A very consistent goalkicker the last two seasons. Harris led the way this year with 34 ahead of the grand final this weekend.

Taylah Hassett, Grovedale (AFL Barwon)

The playing co-coach has dominated the forward line this year, kicking 22 goals in 16 appearances - well up from her five goals in 2023.

Katelyn Hazlett, Woorinen (Central Victoria)

Named in the best in 13 out of the 15 games she played this season, the most of any player in the competition.

Courtney Hunt, Wodonga Raiders (North East Border)

The leading goalkicker for Wodonga this season. Hunt has averaged a goal a game, kicking 13 goals in 12 games.

Vanilla Ika, Horsham (Western Victoria)

Won this year’s best and fairest in the competition for the premiers, Horsham. Ika kicked 17 goals in 12 games and was among the best players in five of them.

Jorden Irvine, Echuca (Northern Country)

Enjoyed arguably the best season of her career in 2024 with 10 goals and nine mentions in the best.

Payten Johnston, Shepparton United (Northern Country)

When she wasn’t playing for the Murray Bushrangers, Johnston was lighting up the competition with 31 goals in six games.

Paynton Jolliffe, Golden Square (Central Victoria)

A dominant season for the premiership contender having booted a resounding 83 goals from 13 games. It’s much better than last year’s 29-goal season.

Shannon Johnson, South Warrnambool (Western Victoria)

Consistently continues to be one of the best for the Roosters in the competition. Johnson kicked 19 goals in eight games this season.

Laura Jonston, Boisdale-Briagolong (Gippsland)

A real star for her club of the last two years. Jonston has been in the best 10 times.

Soraya Kearney-Knox, South Warrnambool (Western Victoria)

Was the leading goalkicker for the grand finalists, South Warrnambool, in the league. Kearney-Knox kicked 22 goals in 12 games.

Emily Kenshole, Thomson (AFL Barwon)

Crowned division one’s leading goal kicker with 37 majors from 13 games, with her ability to read the play and get herself into dangerous areas key to her success.

Kaylea Kobzan, Lavington (North East Border)

The leading goalkicker in the competition. Kobzan has averaged almost four goals a game and has kicked 46 goals in 12 games.

Cassie Koschel, Torquay (AFL Barwon)

Joined the Tigers this year from north-east Victoria, Koschel has been the Tigers’ best player this year as an big-bodied midfielder who can also run off half back.

Sarah Lange-Richards, Tatura (Northern Country)

In what was a tough season for her side, Lange-Richards was a shining light going onto win the league best-and-fairest.

Emmersen Lihou, Werrimull (Millewa)

The rising star has been one of the best players in the competition this season. And could win the best and fairest in the Millewa league this year. She’s been in the best in 11 of 12 games this season.

Charlotte Linssen, Redan (Ballarat)

Hasn’t played many games this season, only seven, but was last year’s best and fairest in the competition and is a talented player deserving a spot on this list.

Olivia Leonard, Grovedale (AFL Barwon)

The 20-years-old GWV Rebels graduate has dominated within the Tigers’ midfield, featuring in their best 11 times from 16 matches this year.

Brydi Lewis, Woorinen (Central Victoria)

One of the rising stars of the competition who has made goalkicking look easy in her first season of senior footy.

Lorianne Lowerson, Werrimull (Millewa)

A superstar of the competition. Lowerson won last year’s best and fairest in the competition and the midfielder is now coaching the club. Has played eight games and been among the best in six of them.

Renea Macbain, Wangaratta Rovers (North East Border)

The second leading goalkicker in the competition. Macbain has kicked 23 goals in 13 games.

Breannan McCabe, Wodonga Raiders (North East Border)

Has been among the best for the Raiders in half the games she has played. A valuable member of the grand final team.

Melanie McNamara, Geelong Ammos (AFL Barwon)

After taking 2023 off, McNamara has returned as one of the Ammos’ best and most consistent midfielders.

Tayah McNaughton, Lindenow South (Gippsland)

Having not played since 2021, McNaughton returned to the field this year and has been one of her side’s most consistent players.

Molly Metcalf, Eaglehawk (Central Victoria)

Has taken her game to another level this season with 38 goals and nine mentions in the best.

Sophie Milsome, Geelong Amateur (AFL Barwon)

Another brilliant season from Milsome who brought consistency and can hit the scoreboard.

Leah Mirtschin, Hamilton (Western Victoria)

A premiership player who continues to excel at the club. Been in the best players in five of 11 games.

Phoebe Monahan, Thomson (AFL Barwon)

The recently retired AFLW premiership player was a boon recruit for the Tigers, Monahan can play across all lines and was in their best in six of eight possible games. Went forward for 12 goals.

Isabelle Moorhead, Warrnambool (Western Victoria)

Has played well in her first season back in football after a few years. Has been one of the best players in seven of nine games.

Josephine Muscat, Murray Felines (North East Border)

A young gun who is playing some good football. Was in the best players in eight of 12 games.

Holly Nuske, Horsham (Western Victoria)

Unlucky not to win a best and fairest this year. Nuske finished third in the Western Victoria count before finishing runner-up in Horsham’s. Nuske has been in the best in seven of 11 games.

Emily Pollard, Wodonga Raiders (North East Border)

Represented North East Border in interleague this season and been one of the best players for the Raiders. Has been among the best players in eight of 12 games.

Emily Porter, Boisdale-Briagolong (Gippsland)

Porter has consistently kicked goals for her side in recent years and has been key to her side’s premiership hopes.

Cody Power, Nathalia (Northern Country)

Enjoyed the best season of her senior career in 2024, earning interleague selection.

Jacinta Reid, Bacchus Marsh (Ballarat)

Been in the best players in every game she has played this season. In all 13 games the former Western Bulldogs and Williamstown VFL player has been among the best for the Cobras.

Sophie Rentsch, Hamilton (Western Victoria)

Been one of the best for the Kangaroos. Has kicked 11 goals in nine games and been among the best in six of them.

Olivia Ritchie, Anglesea (AFL Barwon) 

The division two league runner-up in 2023, Ritchie has continued her dominance this season, featuring in the Roos’ best eight of a possible 10 times.

Kaitlyn Robinson, Murray Felines (North East Border)

The former best and fairest at the club is the only player in the competition to have 10 or more games among the best players. Robinson, who plays in the Felines defence, has been among the best players in 10 out of 13 matches.

Kirsten Roth, East Point (Ballarat)

Having her best year of seniors in her second year at East Point. She’s been in the best players in nine of 14 games.

Rose Russell, Redan (Ballarat)

The Redan captain has led from the front to guide her team to an unbeaten regular season. Has been in the best players in seven of 14 games.

Tayla Sampson, Shepparton United (Northern Country)

In her second season with the club, Sampson enjoyed a strong season with 13 mentions in the best, the most of any player in the league.

Kadeisha Smith, White Hills (Central Victoria)

In her first season of senior footy, Smith has been a dominant force with 11 mentions in the best. As consistent as they come.

Jamie-Lee Speakman, Bacchus Marsh (Ballarat)

Has been impressive as a rebounding defender in her return to football this year. Speakman has been among the best in 13 of 14 matches and could surprise later this year in the best and fairest.

Kara Stacey, Lara (AFL Barwon) 

A dynamic forward and onballer, the experienced Stacey often plays through a tag each week.

Amy Starzer, Mansfield (Northern Country)

Joined the club at the start of the season from the EDFL and immediately went onto become one of the key players.

Maree Stephenson, Barooga (Northern Country)

Played a key role for her side this season with 12 mentions in the best in 13 games.

Danielle Stewart, St Mary’s (AFL Barwon)

An experienced midfielder, Stewart is hard at it in the contest and a ruthless tackler. Reliable and demands respect from her teammates, having played in several leagues - including VFLW - in her time in football.

Paris Stokes, St Joseph’s (AFL Barwon)

A first-year captain of division two club Joeys, Stokes is a hard running midfielder who can also go forward and score.

Crystal Summer, Horsham (Western Victoria)

Impressed in her first season of the competition after playing women’s VFL last year. The versatile player has averaged a goal a game and been in the best players in eight of 11 games.

Ebony Stiles, Tyrendarra (Western Victoria)

Finished second in the best and fairest in the Western Victoria league and was one of the best players for the club. Kicked 11 goals in nine games and was the best in six of them.

Rachael Stubbings, Castlemaine (Central Victoria)

Joined the club this year from Geelong Amateur and has proven to be one of the most exciting additions. Has booted 25 goals and been named in the best 10 times.

Demi Thompson, Lake Wendouree (Ballarat)

Not only does Thompson play football for the club but she’s played more than 150 games in netball as well. A stalwart of the club who has been in the best players in 12 of 14 games.

Amber Towart, Geelong Ammos (AFL Barwon)

The Geelong Falcon is a regular in the Ammos’ best most weeks playing as a defender, though she has also started to see more opportunities through a talented midfield.

Elle Treloar, Horsham (Western Victoria)

The leading goalkicker in the competition this year. The Demons forward kicked 27 goals in 11 games including one in the teams qualifying final win.

Maisey Waayers, South Warrnambool (Western Victoria)

Has thrived off a leadership role to have her best season in the competition. The midfielder, who can also play forward, has been among the best in nine of 12 games. The nine best players is the best in the competition this year.

Ellen Werts, Redan (Ballarat)

One of the leading goalkickers in the competition, with 23 goals in 14 games. Was part of the team of the year in the competition and the forward is on track to do it again this year.

Megan Wheeler, Thurgoona (North East Border)

One of the leading players for Thurgoona in a tough year for the club. Wheeler has been among the best in eight of 10 games.

Alannah Woodhart, Bambill (Millewa)

Been the best player for the Saints this season. Woodhard has been in the best players in nine of 11 games and also represented Millewa in interleague.
