Victoria Police’s Suren Ekanayake allegedly engaged in improper relationship
A Victoria Police acting sergeant has been accused of engaging in a personal and intimate relationship for more than three years which allegedly abused his position of power.

A police officer has been charged with misconduct in public office after he allegedly engaged in an improper, intimate relationship for more than three years.
Suren Llewelyn Ekanayake fronted Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on December 10 for a brief filing hearing after he was charged with two counts of misconduct in public office.
Mr Ekanayake allegedly engaged in an “intimate personal relationship” with an alleged victim between August 2017 and December 2020.
An acting sergeant in Victoria Police’s Southern Region, Mr Ekanayake has also been charged with engaging in an intimate and personal relationship between February and April 2020.
His alleged misconduct is “serious and meriting criminal punishment having regard to the responsibilities of his office”, according to charge sheets obtained by the Herald Sun.
He was charged on November 21 and will next front court on January 28.
