The Javed family are unlikely to forget Saturday anytime soon.
It will go down as the day as 14-year-old Azib scored his first century for Hoppers Crossing.
And he did it with his father, Abdul, at the other end.
As Azib hit triple figures, the pair embraced in the middle of the pitch.
It came in the Victorian Sub District Third XI Division 2 clash against Strathmore with the Cats running out comfortable winners.
Remarkably, it took a lot more patience need than most centuries with Azib finishing day one, a week earlier, on 80 not out.
“It was certainly an emotional moment for me as a dad,” Abdul said.
“I cried when it happened. The week before in the under-17s, he made 50 not out so he was full of confidence. When I came to the crease with him I asked him his thoughts and he was very patient.
“He wanted to take it one ball at a time. He was pretty nervous thinking about it all week. I couldn’t have been happier for him.”
Azib finished exactly on 100 not out in an innings which included 18 boundaries.
Abdul himself was pretty handy with the bat scoring an unbeaten 36.
Hoppers Crossing declared when the young run reached the century.
“It was only his second game at senior level,” Abdul said.
“Azib turned 14 just last month. We had a 79-run partnership which was pretty special as well. He just loves playing cricket and I am glad we made this memory together.”
Azib is an exciting youngster of Hoppers Crossing’s junior program having played at the club since under-11s.
Last season he was named the Western Region Junior Cricket Association’s under-13 champion player.
