DDCA: Springvale South captain Ryan Quirk said the signs were there for another Jordan Wyatt stunner

Springvale South captain Ryan Quirk saw early indications of another Jordan Wyatt century to savour. All that and more from another bumper weekend across the Dandenong District Association.

Ryan Quirk knew a Jordan Wyatt special was on the horizon.

Driving to Buckley Ridges’ Park Oval together, Springvale South’s captain recognised how eager his star batter was to get into the middle.

Quirk called correctly at the toss and Wyatt did the rest.

“Once Jordy starts saying that, it sort of gives you a pretty good idea of where he’s at,” Quirk said.

“He’s just unbelievable isn’t he? He’s fun to watch and a bloody star ... we absolutely love him.”

His 90-ball 129, which included 20 four and one six, led the Bloods to a total 9-361 from their 80 overs.

Quirk says Wyatt’s ability to change the game in the space of three overs makes him so destructive.

“I think he takes the game away from the opposition quickly,” he said.

“I remember Goodesy (Berwick captain Jarrod Goodes) saying on the radio, he’s not someone you look forward to bowling to.

“Even before he faces a ball he changes the bowler’s confidence.

“He can take the game away from them in three overs.”

Jake Cronin (5-81 off 15) prevented the Bloods from posting a score in excess of 400 by capturing Wyatt and several other dangerous batters.

The Bucks need to successfully chase the Bloods’ total to stay in touch with the top four.

They’ll be sweating on Roshane Silva’s finger injury after the ex-Test man sat out of majority of the first innings.

Breathing down the Bucks’ neck in fourth is Hallam Kalora Park, which has North Dandenong in all sorts overnight.

Jawid Khan (42) was looking ominous for the Maroons, but his workload once again proved too heavy with his group falling for 134.

Experienced seamer Will Whyte claimed 5-50 from a marathon 18 overs.

With 36 overs to bat overnight, the Hawks managed make strong inroads on the total by finishing 2-88 overnight.

Mahela Udawatte (41no) looks to be the key to the Hawks pushing for an outright victory.

Narre South, meanwhile, put the Berwick bowlers to the sword by setting an enormous first-innings total.

Opener Vineth Jayasuriya was agonisingly short a century (96) while no.3 Callum Nicholls (100) cashed in.

The pair shared a 193-run partnership.

Jeevan Mendis (55 off 35) and Harsha de Silva (41no off 26) accelerated at the back end for the Lions to finish 5-344.

Since asking his players to make the most of their starts with the bat, Matt Brooks’ side has swiftly scooted out of the relegation battle and into third.

Beaconsfield continued the trend of big scores by posting 3-273 against St Marys.

Tigers’ captain Mark Cooper set the tone with 84 at the top of the order before no.4 Ashan Walgamage recorded 89no.

Wickets were the trend in Turf 2, with every side that batted first losing all 10 wickets.

In the top-of-the-table clash between HSD and Dandenong West, the Cobras collapsed from 2-71 to 144 all out courtesy of 5-43 from Malinga Bandara.

Triyan De Silva (53) and Brent Patterson (39) were the only Cobras to pass 16.

Glen Pepper grabbed an early wicket in reply but Bulls opener Shaun Weir (31no) steadied the ship.

The Bulls are 2-44 needing a further 101 for victory.

Parkfield, meanwhile, almost seized first-innings points before stumps on day 1 after dismissing Narre Warren for just 88 before finishing 3-66.

Nicholas Jeffrey jagged 5-12 off 17.3 overs to bundle the Magpies out for another low score.

If Dandenong West successfully chase HSD’s score, Parkfield should advance into second on the Turf 2 ladder.

A pair of quick wickets from Lyndale captain Surien Silva has propelled his side back into its match against Cranbourne.

After being bowled out for 135, the visitors were staring down the barrel of defeat when the Eagles were 2-82.

Lyndale, led by Silva, took three late wickets to bring the Eagles back to 5-97 at stumps.

Parkmore Pirates was the only side not to bat one day 1 in Turf 2 despite bowling terrifically.

The Pirates, in pursuit of 166, need Narre Warren to defeat Cranbourne to sneak into the top four.

Turf 3 ladder-leader Doveton North has work to do if it’s to snare victory over Coomoora.

After dismissing the visitors for just 130, Doveton North has sunk to 3-25 in reply.

Nick Lloyd (1-5) and Malan Madusanka (1-4) have kept Doveton North in the match.

Lynbrook has already claimed victory over Hampton Park, leading by seven runs at the close of play.

James Kellett (5-42) was the pick of the bowlers before Jay Walia (64no) plundered four fours and five sixes to push Lynbrook to victory.

Silverton, meanwhile, has not only won its match over Doveton but appears just overs from an outright win.

Dismissing the Doves for just 61, the Bakers declared 77 in front and have Doveton 6-38 overnight.

Varinder Virk took 5-19 before captain Ryan North belted 59no.

Despite losing star opener Jackson Marie, Berwick Springs is in a commanding position in its clash with Fountain Gate.

The Titans ran through Fountain Gate for 170 and are 1-44 overnight.

Marie is the only batter dismissed, gone for an entertaining 31.
