BELLARINE GETS ON THE BOARD
For the first time in nine attempts, Bellarine is on the board this season in the Championship Men’s division.
The Storm secured an impressive 100-95 win over Western Port led by Josh Chery who produced his best performance of the season with 24 points.
Lewis Varley was the main creative force for the Storm with 10 assists and four steals.
Despite his side going down, Scott Stone put up 38 points and 10 rebounds for the Steelers.
Meanwhile, the Storm’s Division 1 women’s side emerged victorious, 62-57, in a seesawing encounter against Western Port to shoot to the top of the ladder.
B’hrea Griffin was huge with 20 points while Georgia Varley continued her impressive season.
A BREAKTHROUGH FOR SUNBURY
It’s been a difficult start for Sunbury in the Championship Women’s competition but the Jets finally have their first win after getting the better of Pakenham by four points.
Abby and Chloe Hildebrand played key roles with 32 points between them.
The Jets were forced to hold on for the victory with the Warriors outscoring them 29-17 in the second half.
WALLAN PUSH THE LEAGUE LEADERS
Gippsland United is undefeated in the Division 2 Women’s competition but only just.
Wallan sent a major scare through the ladder leader with a big second half comeback that ultimately fell short on Saturday night.
The Panthers won the second half 48-41 after trailing at the main break.
Makenzie Miller continued her impressive season for United with 28 points while Emily Scholtes was the perfect supporting cast with 17.
Kylah Collins carried a large part of the offensive load for Wallan with 43 points and 16 rebounds.
KEYSBOROUGH LAYS DOWN AN IMPORTANT MARKER
Keysborough moved into the Championship Men’s top-four after a hard fought 98-90 win over ladder leader Hume on Saturday night.
Anthony Williams led the way on the offensive end with 26 points while Calvin Enge and Gerrard Newby both recorded double-doubles for the Cougars.
Meanwhile, Troyce Manassa continued his strong season for Hume with 26 points, 12 rebounds, six assists and three steals.
A ROLLERCOASTER SECOND HALF
Gippsland United went 1-1 on its Division 1 Men double header weekend but it easily could have been two losses.
After falling behind in the third quarter against Bulleen, the home side rallied with a 26-15 final quarter to run out winners and keep touch with the top teams in the division.
Ben Barlow was the star with 27 points.
A key to the victory was the 60 per cent shooting from deep in the final quarter, hitting the front with just over 90 seconds remaining.
THOSE GUYS ARE ON FIRE
You might struggle to find better shooting nights across an entire match up compared to what we saw in Surf Coast’s 103-102 victory over Melton on Saturday night.
The visitors shot 50 per cent from the field, led by 31 points from Rody Spoormakers to secure their fourth victory of the season.
They managed to reach triple figures despite shooting a lowly 16.67 per cent from beyond the arc.
Conrad Cooper had a big game for Surf Coast with 23 points, 18 rebounds and three steals.
ALL STARS RECORD FIRST WIN
Collingwood is on the board after recording a 106-9 win over Southern Peninsula on Sunday afternoon, to leave the Sharks as the only winless team in Division 1 Men.
