Skye supporters clapped so hard their hands were sore after a stellar day of runs, tons and fun on Sunday.

There was raw emotion after Tori Russell and Kylie Walters both scored sparkling centuries in the Chickaburras’ win over Kingston Heath at Skye.

Walters, a prolific run maker, blasted 100 retired, continuing her splendid season in which she’s averaging 267.

Former softballer Russell, 22, had a day to remember, achieving several career-highs on her way to 100 retired, including more than doubling her previous best score and hitting her first six (which she swiftly followed up by hitting another).

Skye totted up 2-244 off 36 overs before restricting Kingston Heath to 6-82.

Russell was mobbed by her excited Skye teammates, including captain Stacey Dorbolo, as she walked off.

“We all get behind each other and for Tori to get her first hundred — 48 was her previous highest score — we were all so happy,” Dorbolo said.

“It felt like we won a flag again.

“Like, I was smiling all night — I couldn’t sleep because I was thinking of the game.”

Dorbolo said Walters had been a great inclusion this season after returning from having a baby.

“She wanted to take it easy this year and she’s come back beautifully,” she said.

“Kylie is a good mentor for our younger players. She’s just great to have around the club.”

Skye was last season’s joint premiership winner with Parkfield after the sides tied in a last-ball thriller in the grand final.

Another flag beckons this season for the Chickaburras, who sit 10 points clear on top of the ladder.

This is Skye’s fifth season of women’s cricket and it is going from strength to strength.

“We’ve got such depth in our team,” Dorbolo said.

“We play to how we’ve been trained. Full credit to Skye for giving us the opportunity, especially our coach, Mark Greenwood, he’s fantastic with the girls, he’s always positive. No one’s ever negative. It’s just a good environment to be around.

“I am so excited about the future for Skye. Next year we are hoping to have two women’s sides, one in the Shield and one in the level we are now.

“To me that’s just so exciting, from where we’ve come from to where we are now.”

For this cricket side, the Skye’s the limit.

Skye will unfurl its premiership flag this Sunday when it hosts Brighton.
