Newly appointed Coburg captain Amy Duguid has credited a welcoming environment for her quick rise up to seniority at the VAFA club.
Originally from Shepparton, the 23-year-old has made a smooth transition from country to metro, using football as a vehicle to help her with the move she made last year.
“I have absolutely loved Coburg,” Duguid said about the Lions where she made “lifelong friends”.
“I started last year and it kind of feels like I have been there for a lot longer.
“I have slotted in so easily and they have created such an awesome environment where you can slot into the family.
“They have just helped me 10-fold.
“They have made the transition so easy and effortless.”
Duguid‘s appointment as skipper makes her the second ever captain of the Lions women’s senior side following Maddie Edwards who had led the team since their inaugural season in 2021.
The Lions, established in 1891, have supported Duguid in finding a job as a project coordinator which has helped her “get a career going and create a good pathway.”
The former Shepparton Bears and Swans footballer said the support of her family and people at the club, including close friend Sophie Damon, played a part.
Lions chief executive Sebastian Spagnuolo said Duguid, who was voted in as captain by her peers, was a “highly respected figure” who loved the club and had built great relationships.
