He’s churned out runs wherever he’s played.

And Bobby Wilson intends to keep the trend going after signing with Dromana.

The Grasshoppers compete in the second-tier Peninsula division of the Mornington Peninsula association and Wilson’s move represents a step back in grade after a successful eight-season stint with Provincial club Sorrento.

The champion right-hander has scored nearly 7000 runs in Provincial grade in the past 15 years, firstly with Moorooduc and then Sorrento.

At Sorrento, he made 4772 runs, across all formats, including eight centuries.

Wilson says he’s excited by the opportunity to help Dromana take a significant leap forward in the MPCA.

“Looking at them (Dromana) from the outside for past few years I reckon they’ve done really well to get where they are,” he said.

“I think they said they were bottom of Subbies 10 years ago so they knew they had to do something and obviously they got out of Subbies and stabilised in District and now they’re up in Peninsula.

“They said they haven’t played Provincial for over 50 years and they’ve never won a Provincial flag, so it’s a good little challenge.”

At Dromana, Wilson, who is captain of the MPCA Country Week side, has been appointed director of cricket, to go with his job of making plenty of runs.

“They want me to help them set up to be a Provincial club,’’ he said.

“They don’t want to just put a team together and go up and struggle. They want to go up and become a Provincial club…they want me to run my eyes over on-field and off-field and tell them what they can do better.

“It’s not like a traditional captain coach role. It’s across all departments.”

Dromana favourite son Sam Fowler will captain the Hoppers First XI next season.

“He’s the heart of Dromana, they all love him,” Wilson said.

Dromana made the finals in Peninsula division last season, and more recruits are on the way, with another two signings to be announced in the coming weeks.

“It’s looks like we’ll have a decent side and hopefully we can go from where we’re at and push up to Provincial, that’s the aim,” Wilson said.

“It’s a bit of a change, a different grade, play in different grounds, different people.

I’m looking for forward to it.”
