Dropped on 14, Baden Powell opener Beau Anthony made Mornington pay a heavy price on Saturday.

The left-hander smashed 126 off 106 balls, including 14 fours and 3 sixes, to set up the Braves’ 11-run win at Alexandra Park.

All this after he was a late inclusion after Coen Chernishoff withdrew with a tight hamstring.

While Anthony was in blistering form, it was his opening partner Josh Waldron who lit the fuse, taking 17 off the opening over of the game.

When Waldron was out for 21 off 15, Hurricane Anthony hit Mornington right between the eyes, blasting Baden Powell to 8-233 off its 40 overs.

Mornington had a dip in reply, making 6-222, but found the target too great. Opener Zac Garnet cracked a run-a-ball 53, Matt Foon continued his sparkling form with 81 off 70 balls and Charlie Parker clipped 31 not out.

John Harrison (2-43) and Rhys Elmi (2-37) were the pick of the Braves bowlers.

Old Peninsula marked John Forrest’s 200th First XI game with a rousing win over arch rivals Langwarrin at Lloyd Park.

The Pirates were razor sharp with the ball and in the field, claiming 7-35 to dismiss Langy for 122 in the 40th over after impressive spells from Rhys Whitling, Justin Grant and Will Crowder.

They then chased down the target with four wickets and 13 balls to spare, making 6-123 in 37.5 overs — Forrest fittingly seeing them home with 9 not out.

Oscar Craig (25), Grant (24) and Wade Pelzer (19) were the main contributors for Old Peninsula, which climbed to top spot as the sole undefeated side.

For Langwarrin, Tom Hussey (33), Jayde Herrick (22 and 2-28) and Travis Campbell (2-19) did best.

A vital 60 by opener Tim Strickland and a brilliant bowling spell by skipper Tom Baron (3-5 off 8 overs) helped Mt Eliza edge Baxter by five runs and secure its first win of the season.

Strickland batted for most of the innings as the Mounties put up 8-135 off their 40. Ben Tracy chipped in with 22, while Baxter spinner Justin Bridgeman snared four wickets.

In reply, Baxter lost key batsmen Daniel Warwick (3), Chris Brittain (1), Joe Rule (9) and Bridgeman (0) cheaply, with Baron having a hand in each dismissal.

Baxter skipper Sam Mullavey (63no) tried to revive the innings but, despite late thrusts from Dale Irving (15) and Todd Quinn (19), the visitors ran out of overs, stranded on 7-130 off 40.

Baron’s superb spell included five maidens, while Josh Goudge (1-16 off 4) and Kalana Perera (1-2 1) also struck.

Reigning premiers Sorrento broke through for its first win of the season after skipper Bobby Wilson grabbed four wickets to send Red Hill packing for 99.

The Sharks batted first and were held to 9-116 thanks to an inspired spell by Red Hill opening bowler Tom Collett (3-9 off 8 overs).

Mitch Bench (30) and Liam O’Connor (26) had a 59-run partnership and 15-year-old Matt Rulach added 15 valuable runs in the last few overs.

Red Hill’s reply started well, reaching 1-35, with Simon Dart (33) and opener Luke Robertson (17) looking comfortable.

But Red Hill’s demise began when Sorrento paceman Jake Wood trapped Dart lbw and then spinners Wilson (4-23 off 7.5) and Leigh Janssen (2-23 off 8) suffocated Red Hill, which was dismissed in the 39th over.

Wood finished with 3-22 off 7 overs, including his 100th wicket for the club in only his 34th game.

In Peninsula, Jordan McCulley grabbed seven wickets as an aggressive Main Ridge opened its winning account with a resounding 90-run win over Seaford Tigers. The Cougars smashed 6-210, with openers Billy Sakalis (57) and Mick Holmes (37) putting on 75 and Gareth Wyatt (42) and Chris Barker (41) firing.

Jye Thornell (3-25 off 8) bowled well for the Tigers.

In reply, Seaford Tigers also went on the attack but were shot out before drinks, dismissed in the 20th over for 120. McCulley, who has returned to Main Ridge after four seasons at Kingston-Hawthorn, took 7-59 off 8 overs.

Pines kept its unbeaten record in tact after a knocking over Flinders for 97 to secure a 48-run win.

Pines skipper Harley Peace-Stirling (46), Connor Jackson (27) and Damien Lawrence (26) helped the Piners to 145.

Flinders, in reply, lost both openers for ducks and was always battling, dismissed in the 39th over.

Patty Jackson (3-27 off 8), Jackson Mockett (2-18 off 8), Nick Wilcox (2-17 off 8) and Liam Jackson (1-5 off 6) bowled beautifully for Pines.

Zac Wilson (66no) and Pubudu Edirisinghe (51) were in crisp form as Long Island (8-208) had too much fire power for Moorooduc (8-167). Dan Kelly snared 3-31 with the new ball.

Heatherhill handed Somerville its first defeat after impressive innings’ from Don Pulukkuttiarachchi (50) and Kristian Miller (43).

The Heatherhill pair put on 88 to steer their side to 185.

Aaron Kaddatz (4-30) was the pick of the Somerville bowlers.

In reply, the Eagles were in early trouble and were dismissed for 144, despite a fine 57 by skipper Brad McDonald.

Kieran Lenehan (3-23) and his son Aidan Lenehan (1-4) claimed key wickets, and Jonathon Powell and Brett Maxwell snared two apiece.
