Live stream: Stars to watch at the Water Polo Australia 19 and under male national state championships

The next generation of Aussie male water polo players to hit international waters will be on show in Sydney over four big days starting on Friday. Catch them LIVE on KommunityTV.

They are young, talented, super fit and, in some cases, very tall.

The next generation of Australian water polo players to hit international waters are competing at the upcoming Water Polo Australia 19&under nationals male championships.

The event is being played in Sydney from Friday until Monday with 24 matches to be streamed on KommunityTV. The women’s event will be fought out at the same time in Melbourne.

We’ve spoken to those in the know for a handle on some of the players of interest to watch at the Sydney 19s men’s event being played at Pymble Ladies College.

JOSH WYLIE is hard to miss.

The young gun, playing for ACT/TAS at the tournament, is 198cm plus - that’s 6‘6” in the old scale - and plays C/B utility.

He is a huge outside shooter who played National League in 2022 for Hobart Adelaide Jets and has also represented Tasmania at a senior level. Wylie has been involved in state teams since 2015.

HUNTER WRIGHT is a teammate of Wylie and almost as tall at 193cm. They have also played together in state polo for around seven years.

A centre forward, centre back, utility who loves an outside shot.

Wright toured Serbia back in 2018 as an U16 young gun and again in 2022 as part of the U20s.

He played National League with the Adelaide Jets back before Covid in 2019 and with the Hobart Adelaide Jets in 2020/21. He was recently listed as a categorised athlete for the second year running

RYAN MEDIC is a teenager with talent to burn and hails from Brisbane where he plays for River City.

He has been part of the Australian national squad for some time.

Medic, just 18, is also considered one of the leading centre forwards in his state and one to watch at the upcoming national state championships.

MAX CULLEN is a 19-year-old from Brisbane who plays for the Warriors and expected to make his presence known at the tournament.

He is a member of the Australian junior team and one of the leading goalkeepers in water polo in the country.

ISAAC KYLE-LITTLE is another Queenslander expected to make his mark at the event.

The 18-year-old is a teammate of Medic’s and on the Australian Cadet squad.

He is considered one of the leading drivers in both his state and Australia.

TRISTAN GLANZNIG has been on the radar of those in the know for a number of years, with the 19-year-old hailing from the strong Cronulla club.

He plays left wing and left driver and is known for his agility and shooting prowess.

This Sydney talent was named on the Australian Junior men’s team for a tour of NZ.

JORDAN LANCASTER is another Blues player.

The 19-year-old plays on the left side of the pool and recently gained valuable international experience on a European water polo tour.

He plays for Drummoyne in the national league team and also in the junior squad being monitored closely ahead of the FINA Junior world championships in 2023.

NICHOLAS CROWE hails from the same club as Glanznig in Sydney’s south.

The teenager play in the ACU Cronulla Sharks squad in the Australian water polo league and part of the NSW talent squad.

TOBY GOLDSCHMIDT is another from NSW to watch for.

He has been a longstanding member of the NSW Blues and is well known for his swimming ability. A real danger to opposing teams.

MARCUS BEREHULAK is another rising star of the sport and has been involved with junior and senior national teams as a dynamic CB/utility player.

A goalscoring whiz, he also played in the FINA World League Intercontinental Cup in Peru earlier this year.

One of the highest goalscorers in this year’s Sydney Super League.

MATTIA BOGNOLO is a 19-year-old from Nordek Water Polo Club who gas been playing at Wagner College in the US. He was part of the touring Australian youth squad and will play NZ after this event.

PETER BRUCE will be fronting for WA at the event and was a member of the Australian Youth men’s team for the 2022 FINA Youth world championships.

He is just 18 but a player to watch.

GRIFFIN WOODHOUSE is the son of a gun in Sydney Olympic gold medallist Danielle Woodhouse.

He is also one of the older members of Western Australia’s team for the U19 national state championships.

PATRICK DART is a teammate of Woodhouse’s and just 18.

He was a member of the Australian Youth men’s team for the 2022 FINA Youth men’s world championships.

He has also been a stand out at recent Australian Youth water polo championships.

OLIVER PURCELL is a youngster from Victoria worth watching.

The 17-year-old is a goalie and was named in the Junior men’s squad that will play against New Zealand in a Test match series following this event.

ElLIH MUTSCH AND JONAH ALLAN are a pair of 17-year-old’s from Victoria.

They are exciting young talents and showed they have plenty of potential to be stars of the future when named in the Australian Youth Men’s squad following the 15&U and 17&U national state championships.
