Finals contenders emerge, stars dominate Big V Basketball action

Big V Basketball’s best players delivered another special weekend of action with some huge performances. Here are all the key talking points.

The latest round of Big V Basketball action brought about a series of stunning performances.

KEYSBOROUGH’S BIG COMEBACK

Keysborough moved into the top-four with a thrilling 80-75 victory over Bellarine in their Championship Men clash.

Despite being 12 points down at the final break, the Cougars stormed home courtesy of a 26-9 final quarter.

Anthony Williams and Naoum Lazis led the way with 17 points while josh Chery had 16 for the Storm.

MONSTER WEEKEND FROM SHERBROOKE STAR

Alicia Carline continues to go from strength-to-strength this season.

She was at her brilliant best against Hume on Sunday against Hume with a mammoth 29 points, 20 rebounds and seven blocks.

It followed a 21-point and 19-rebound game in her side’s win over Sunbury on Saturday night.

Carline is averaging 16.57 points per game.

PAKENHAM ON THE BOARD

Pakenham’s women’s team tasted success for the first time in 2023 after a big 100-63 win over last placed Sunbury on Sunday.

Robertus Dielemans’ team was led on the score sheet by Ebony Sans who had 20 points on 8-11 shooting to go along with 10 rebounds.

Haille Nickerson and Melissa Prior were also impressive.

CHELSEA STAR’S MONSTER PERFORMANCE

Elijah Davey couldn’t have played much better on Saturday in Chelsea’s win against RMIT.

He recorded 53 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists as the Gulls ran out 10-point winners.

MELBOURNE UNIVERSITY’S STATEMENT

Melbourne Uni has made a big statement in the race for the Championship Men top-four with a big 107-91 victory over Hume.

The result was the Broncos first loss of the season as Joel Rimes and Stefan Pomasan led the way with 24 and 23 points respectively.

PAKENHAM SECURE IMPORTANT WIN

Pakenham’s men’s team has sent a message to the remainder of the Division 1 with a strong 24-point win over Warrnambool.

A strong second quarter set up the victory for the Warriors with Josh Dow putting up a double-double.

WARRNAMBOOL KNOCKING ON THE DOOR

The Seahawks are moving closer to the top of the Division 1 women’s ladder after a five-point win over Craigieburn.

Amy Wormald was at the front and centre with 17 points and 15 rebounds.

COOPER RIDES THE WAVE FOR THE SURF COAST

Conrad Cooper was nothing short of superb as the Surf Coast secured an important victory over fellow finals aspirant Sherbrooke on Saturday.

He finished with 20 points and 22 rebounds as his side won its third game of the season.

Dogukan Elyaza also impressed on the offensive end with 20 points.

All five of Surf Coast’s starters were in double figures.
