Big V Basketball: The top 20 women of season 2022

There has been an impressive mix of local and international women’s talent starring in the Big V competition this season. Here’s our top 20.

The stars of Big V Basketball have well and truly been on show this season as the race for a place in the finals heats up.

Here are our top 20 women’s players of the season.

DYANI ANANIEV

Wyndham, Championship

One of the rising young guns of Victorian basketball. The Wyndham star has averaged 19.1 points per game this season, with an outstanding ability to make shots from deep. She has also played a handful of games in the NBL1 South competition for Eltham.

SHARNA APPLEBY

Altona, Division 2

Appleby has been in standout form throughout the season for the ladder leading Gators with big performances on offence and defence. She is averaging 20.7 points and 2.5 steals a game.

IDA ANDERSSON

Sunbury, Championship

Leads the competition in assists with 5.1 per game but Andersson has also shown an outstanding ability to score in bursts with an average of 18.7 points. She is also one of the league’s best defenders.

OLIVIA BONTEMPELLI

Bulleen, Championship

Bontempelli is the Boomers’ leading scorer with 17.5 points per game. But her average of 2.6 assists and 2.07 steals highlights her impact as an all-round player.

BRIANA GRAY

Hume, Championship

Gray is putting up huge numbers across the board this season for the Broncos with 18.5 points a game a key stat. She’s also had a big impact on the boards with an average of 10.8 per game. Gray is also among the league’s better shot blockers.

ARIEL HEARN

Sherbrooke, Division 1

One of the standout players in a fantastic Suns side who sits on the top of the ladder. Hearn leads her division in points (27) and steals (4.7) per game highlighting her ability at both ends of the floor.

CHLOE HOGG

Gippsland United, Division 2

Coming off a sensational Country Basketball League season, Hogg has stepped it up in United’s Big V campaign. She is averaging a team high 19 points per game. A brilliant player.

MARNIE HOUGHTON

Camberwell, Division 1

It can be hard to pick a standout player on a Camberwell side which sits second on the ladder but Houghton’s performances have helped her side into that exact position. She is averaging 15.6 points per game and is a consistent threat from deep leading the Dragons in three-pointers made.

MORGAN ILI

McKinnon, Championship

A consistent player across both ends of the floor in a McKinnon side which finds itself right in premiership contention. Ili’s season boasts nice stats across the board including an average of 14.3 points, 6.9 rebounds and 2.4 steals a game.

MARIA STEEN JESPERSEN

Sunbury, Championship

The Danish international has been a sensation since her debut where she finished with a near triple-double. Jespersen clearly leads the league in scoring with 26.6 points per game while she is also averaging an impressive 3.5 steals highlighting her ability at both ends.

SAMANTHA KELTOS

Western Port, Division 1

Keltos has enjoyed a standout season for the Steelers after arriving in Australia with a big reputation. She has led her team in scoring and rebounds to average a double-double through the 12 games she has played.

SAMANTHA LABROS

RMIT Redbacks, Division 2

Labros’ form throughout her 11 games of action has helped lift the Redbacks into title contention as they currently sit second on the ladder. She is the league’s leading scorer with 22.2 points per game. Labros also averages a competition high 3.5 steals.

SIOBHAN MAC AODHA

Coburg, Division 2

The Coburg star is able to find her way to the basket, averaging 17.3 points per game or facilitate for others with an average of 4.3 assists a game — the second most of any player.

GRACE MOXEY

Blackburn, Division 2

Moxey has enjoyed a fantastic season for Blackburn helping her side move into the upper parts of the ladder as they aim for a finals appearance.

HAILLE NICKERSON

Pakenham, Championship

After arriving in Australia with a big reputation, Nickerson has carved out a nice season for the Warriors. She has averaged 18.4 points, 2.5 assists and 6.8 rebounds through 11 games.

KATIE O’KEEFE

Warrnambool, Division 1

A player who can do a bit of everything. O’Keefe has been brilliant for the Mermaids in 2022 and has consistently been able to get the job done at both ends of the floor.

JESSICA RARITY

Altona, Division 2

Rarity’s presence on the court has helped Altona firm into title favouritism throughout the season. She has averaged 13.7 points, 11.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.3 steals a game.

AMELIA SMITH

Melbourne University, Division 1

Despite her side sitting in the bottom half of the ladder, Smith has enjoyed a standout season. She’s continued to be her side’s main offensive weapon with an average of 18.2 points per game.

FANNI SZABO

Mildura, Division 1

The Heat’s import has led her side’s charge towards a possible finals series with an impressive 26.1 points, 7.7 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. She started the season a little later but her impact can’t be undersold.

LOUELLA TOMLINSON

Bulleen, Championship

Nothing comes easy against Tomlinson. The Boomers star is the league’s leading shot blocker, averaging 2.9 per game. But she’s also a consistent threat on the offensive end with 11.8 points a game.
