Big V Basketball: The top 20 men of season 2022

There has been an impressive mix of local and international men’s talent starring in the Big V competition this season. Here’s our top 20.

The stars of Big V Basketball have well and truly been on show this season as the race for a place in the finals heats up.

Here are our top 20 men’s players of the season.

BRANDON ARMSTRONG

Gippsland United, Division 2

Armstrong has been brilliant in his side’s return to the competition averaging 4.13 steals a game to lead all comers. He has also consistently been able to get the job done at the offensive end with 19.4 points a game.

SHARIF BLACK

McKinnon, Championship

After suiting up for Wallan last season, Black has made a seamless transition to the top tier to have the highest scoring average at 27.2 points per game on an impressive 47.9 per cent. He has also been a consistent threat on the boards with an average of 10.2 rebounds.

COHEN BLYTHE

Corio Bay, Division 1

A player who has been able to contribute at both ends of the floor. Blythe is averaging a team-high three steals per game this season and also leads the Stingrays in scoring.

MATT BRASSER

Southern Peninsula, Division 1

As consistent they come at both ends of the floor for the Sharks. Brasser’s presence at the defensive end has certainly been felt with a division high average of 3.07 steals per game to go along with 15.5 points a game and 6.8 assists.

STEPHEN COFFEY

RMIT Redbacks, Division 1

One of the most dominant performers across all three men’s divisions. Coffey is right now narrowly short of avoiding a triple-double on the season with 19.2 points, 10.7 assists and 9.8 rebounds a game.

JOE DAVIS

Pakenham, Division 2

The Canadian has been nothing short of sensational for the Warriors. Throughout the season he has shown a fantastic ability to score big with an average of 26.8 points per game.

CHRIS ELDER

Hume, Championship

One of the league’s top defenders averaging 2.75 steals a game. Elder can also get it done on the offensive end having consistently been able to put up big scoring numbers.

JOE FURPHY

Melbourne University, Division 1

The young gun is the top scorer for the Division 1 ladder leader with 17.6 points per game on an impressive 54.2 per cent from the field. Furphy is also his team’s leading rebounder.

DEXTER GRAHAM

Craigieburn, Division 2

Although he has just six games to his name, Graham is a tremendous talent for the Eagles who are pushing for a place in finals action. He is averaging 20.5 points, 6.5 assists and eight rebounds so far.

MANNY HENDRIX

Collingwood, Division 1

The All Stars have just one win this season but Hendrix still finds himself among the best players in the second tier. He’s averaged 21.7 points a game on 39.4 per cent shooting as he carries the majority of Collingwood’s offensive load.

ANTHONY HILL

Mildura, Division 2

The Heat’s import has been limited to just nine games this season but when he has been on the court he has made a big difference. He has averaged 27.8 points, 11.7 rebounds and 1.4 steals a game.

MAURICE HOWARD

Wyndham, Championship

The American is the leading scorer for the title contender which recently gave up top spot on the ladder. He is averaging 24 points per game.

GARRETT JEFFERSON

Shepparton, Division 1

Jefferson has been one of the most efficient players in Big V basketball this season. On average he is playing just over 26 minutes a game and in that time is scoring 18.1 points.

DAREON JONES

Southern Peninsula, Division 1

Jones has proven himself to be a high volume scorer in an exciting season for Southern Peninsula with 24.5 points per game despite some struggles from deep. He is also consistently a threat on the boards.

CHRISTOPHER KABA

Sherbrooke, Division 2

One of the most consistent players in the Suns’ push for finals action. Kaba is averaging 16.5 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.

ARCAIM LALLEMAND

Wallan, Division 2

The Panthers’ import has played an important role in his side reaching a 10-7 record through 17 games. Lallemand has averaged a double-double with 18.7 points and 10.7 rebounds per game.

TROYCE MANASSA

Western Port, Championship

Despite the Steelers sitting in the bottom half of the ladder, Manassa should find himself right in MVP calculations at the end of the season. He has put up consistent numbers with 26.2 points, 9.2 rebounds and 2.3 steals a game.

GERRARD NEWBY

Keysborough, Division 1

After returning to the Cougars for this season, Newby has been in terrific form to put his side in title contention. He’s averaged 20.56 points per game and 9.4 rebounds through 16 matches so far.

ISH SANDERS

Sunbury, Championship

The American has made a big impact for the Jets who have soared to the top of the ladder in recent weeks. Sanders is averaging 26.8 points and 1.8 steals a game. He is shooting 42.1 per cent from the floor.

BRENDAN TREWELLA

Camberwell, Championship

Trewella is enjoying a fantastic all around season in the 12 game games he has featured in. He is shooting an impressive 51.1 per cent from the field while averaging 15 points, 4.8 assists and 5.7 rebounds. You can also expect him to have an impact at the defensive end with 1.2 steals.
