Big V Basketball: Sherbrooke Suns unbeaten after Division 1 three games

Despite only being promoted this season, Sherbrooke appears to be one of the teams to beat in Big V Basketball behind a player who might be impossible “to stop”.

Sherbrooke’s women’s basketball teams is one of the hottest prospects in Big V Basketball right now.

The Suns are undefeated after their first three games of the Division 1 season despite only being promoted to the second tier for the 2022 season.

Their latest win was a monster 93-40 demolition of an understrength Mildura on home court on Saturday night.

Four Suns finished in double figures as Alicia Carline led the way with 26 points on 13-18 shooting alongside 14 rebounds.

She was also a force at the defensive end with three blocks and two steals.

Sherbrooke coach Chad Burton said he was really pleased with the performance Carline put together.

“Alicia is a hustle player who works hard at both ends of the court,” he said.

“Once she gets into the right position in the post, I don’t think there is anyone who can stop her. She played a fantastic game and worked really hard inside the key to make the most of her opportunities.

“It was another positive performance.”

Ariel Hearn also impressed in another strong display as she went tantalising close to a quadruple-double, one of the rarest feats in the sport, as she finished with 18 points, 12 rebounds, eight assists and six steals.

Burton said Hearn had “settled in really well” with her teammates.

“Ariel is getting better with every game she plays for our club,” he said.

“There’s going to be games where she’s going to put up some great offensive numbers but she’s already happy to bring her teammates into the game as well.

“I’ve probably been most impressed with her defence, she’s a great defensive player.

“Ariel and Alicia have also been playing well together and I can’t wait to keep seeing their partnership develop.”

Naomi Smith 14 points and 14 rebounds also finished with a double-double.

The Suns raced out of the blocks with a 31-8 quarter-time lead and never looked back from there continuing to build their lead at every break.

“It was fantastic we were able to keep it going after the first quarter,” the coach said.

“Mildura were missing a few players but I was glad our team stuck to our task.”
