Some of regional Victoria’s best junior basketballers are aiming to help their local town be crowned the best in the state.
This weekend, hundreds of players will descend on Traralgon for the Basketball Victoria Junior Country Championships under 14s competition with the action live on the Herald Sun website.

Here is a look at the players to keep an eye on across the tournament.
Brodie Adams, Traralgon under 14 boys
Adams is a skilful player but T-Birds officials rave about the effort he brings to the court. He is dangerous on transition and is described as the “engine room of the team”.
Josh and Will Anderson, Bellarine under 14 boys
A set of twins set to have a big impact on the competition. Josh is a forward/centre who provides a strong inside presence on both ends of the floor while also being able to step out and hit shots from outside the paint. Will is a tough inside defender who finds clever positions at the offensive end. Will is also a big rebounder.
Charlie Baker, Hamilton, under 14 boys
Baker is an on-court playmaker with terrific ball handling and game sense. He is a point guard who can bring his teammates into the game with excellent passing. He can also hit a bit three when it’s required.
Christian Beecroft, Macedon Ranges under 14 boys
Beecroft is a strong point guard with his vision, decision-making and passing ability his key skills. A fierce competitor who makes his teammates better, all while still developing his outside game.
Arhi Cohen, Wodonga under 14 girls
The bottom age guard will look to lead the way for her team with leading scorer Crystal Holdsworth set to miss the competition. Cohen is lightning quick and super competitive. She will relish the opportunity to play against the regional Victoria’s best.
Maya Garlick, Foster under 14 girls
At just 12 years old, Garlick has already been selected in Basketball Victoria’s Academy Program. She is predominantly a big who is a consistent threat at both ends of the floor. She is able to play across different positions depending on the match up.
Ford Gore, Traralgon under 14 boys
An outstanding point guard who has an incredible and creative finishing ability. He is hard to stop from either scoring or creating opportunities for teammates.
Seth Graham, Wodonga under 14 boys
Graham is a player who has improved substantially in the past two years despite the pandemic. It has him placed as one of the top talents heading into this weekend’s tournament. Despite being taller than most opponents, he can get up and done the floor with ease which makes him difficult to guard.
Saskia Gould, Hamilton under 14 girls
Gould uses her height and strength to play as a powerful tall under the basketball. She has an uncanny ability to real the play therefore creating steals on the defensive end. She is also a fantastic ball handler.
Will Hamilton, Traralgon under 14 boys
A long and athletic guard who can score both inside and out. Hamilton defends all five positions and is a dominate rebounder. He is tipped to be a future state player.
Noah Hanegraaf, Macedon Ranges under 14 boys
Hanegraaf is an athletic guard who has a strong defensive game, being able to guard from 1 through 4. With a high basketball IQ, his ability to read the game leads to a fair share of tips and steals.
Riley Iredelle, Hamilton under 14 boys
Iredalle is a tough and tenacious player who will compete for every rebound. He has developed into a dangerous shooter from deep while also bringing fantastic energy at the defensive end of the floor.
Ella Macfarlane, Traralgon under 14 girls
A strong and smart big who brings a crafty defensive capacity, with IQ beyond her years. Her leadership and communication is the glue for the T-Birds outfit.
Ethan Metelli, Surf Coast under 14 boys
Metelli is a great sized two-way player with fans being told to look out for his high impact defence and deadly outside shooting. He has collected two MVPs in recent domestic and representative action.
Jaxson Meyer, Whittlesea under 14 boys
Meyer has been on the representative stage before having competed for Vic Country at Basketball Victoria’s country-metro challenge earlier this year. He is also a member of the Eagles team in the top division of the VJBL competition.
Logan Oldmeadow, Whittlesea under 14 boys
Another member of Whittlesea’s VJBL team in the Victorian Championship division. Oldmeadow recently played at the country-metro challenge which saw him face off against some of the best juniors in the state.
Annalee Ross, Maryborough under 14 girls
A small but quick guard not afraid to get into the action. Her speed allows for her to shut down opponents on defence but also beat them one-on-one at the offensive end. Smith is a fast developing player who has a bright future ahead.
Chelsea Ross, Maryborough under 14 girls
Ross is an extremely versatile player with great height and an outstanding vertical jump. She also has the ability to bring the ball down the court. Ross is a double threat player and one to keep an eye on.
Harvey Rumpff, Maryborough under 14 boys
Rumpff is a versatile young player with intelligence beyond his years. He can guard any player on the floor and lead the team with his direction on offence. He is always reliable and great to watch.
Amily Smith, Traralgon under 14 girls
A talented and clever bottom aged player, who will be one of the youngest athlete participating at this event. She is comfortable leading the team on offence and her defensive pressure without fouling and great footwork is nice to watch. A player for the future.
Wil Smith, Maryborough under 14 boys
Smith brings height to the Blazer team. He is a strong rebounder who is beginning to become a factor with his positioning in the paint. He has improved throughout the season and will be one to watch over the next few years.
Sam Villani, Surf Coast under 14 boys
Villani is able to get to the ring with fantastic footwork and power. He is also a player who can hit the scoreboard in a big way. He is continuing to improve at the defensive end.
Wil Walker, Traralgon under 14 boys
Despite being one of the bottom age players on the T-Birds team, Walker is a smart guard who excels as a defender. He is one of the premier players at his age.
