There’s been some big names cleared to West Gippsland cricket clubs ahead of the 2021-22 season.

Champion batsman-keeper Tom Hussey has returned to Tooradin after a fruitful stint with Langwarrin in the Mornington Peninsula association.

Hussey scored over 1800 runs, played in several premierships and took a truckload of dismissals, in three seasons at Langwarrin.

He will boost Tooradin’s bid to challenge the likes of Cardinia and Koo Wee Rup for the West Gippsland top prize.

Hussey hit 11 centuries and almost 5000 runs for Tooradin during a run-filled eight season period before crossing to Langwarrin in 2018-19.

Tooradin has also regained premiership paceman Steve Hamill from Koonwarra Leongatha RSL.

Hamill took 5-32 off 19 overs in Tooradin’s grand final win over Merinda Park in 2012-13, the same game in which Hussey plundered 146.

Meanwhile, Clyde seam bowler Patrick Lawson has been cleared to Pakenham in a mighty boost to the Lions bowling attack.

Lawson, who is also a hard-hitting batsman, has taken over 300 wickets for Clyde.

Pakenham has also picked up Paul Kezik, from Sussex Inlet in NSW. He made headlines in 2019 when he plundered 107 in quick time.

The Lions have also gained Shannon Mitchell from Cardinia.

Match-winning all-rounder Daniel Diwell has returned to Cardinia a decade after last playing with the Bulls.

He’s been cleared to the reigning champions from Merinda Park.

At his best Diwell was one of the premier players in the WGCA; he bowls a heavy ball, off cutters that rear up. And he hits a big ball.

Cardinia has also gained Templestowe leg-spinner Lachlan Volpe. The younger brother to assistant coach and premiership player Nathan Volpe, Lachlan is a former captain of Templestowe, where he took 145 wickets, at 12.90, in three seasons.

Cardinia will boast an awesome array of spinners, featuring Travis Wheller, Dwayne Doig, Volpe and coach Jake Prosser.
