Batsmen who like to take their time will be pleased with the news that two-day games will return in the MPCA in 2021-22.

Covid meant all of last season’s matches were played as one-dayers.

MPCA general manager Jason Nagel said the fixture would revert back to seven two-day games and seven one-day games.

He said most clubs were looking forward to the longer form, although he said another Covid lockdown could change the fixture.

“I mean everything’s Covid based,’’ he said.

“If it kicks in we’ve just got to be flexible.’’

Some suggested a fixture of 21 one-dayers, with teams to play everyone three times, would be wise in these uncertain times.

Home grand finals — brought in last season — will remain in 2021-22.

Twenty20 cricket could see a change, with the four divisions to take on a more geographical make-up, with a north, east, south and west set up.

Senior women’s cricket looks set to take off, with up to eight teams keen to field teams.

Meanwhile, West Gippsland club Devon Meadows’ bid to join the MPCA will be voted on at the annual general meeting on August 16.

The MPCA is searching for a treasurer after the long-serving Craig Letch stepped down.
