He’d been umming and ahing, but this week he bit the bullet.

Rosebud all-rounder Patrick Nagel has decided to give Premier Cricket a crack, joining Frankston Peninsula for season 2021-22.

The 22-year-old, who played in Rosebud’s MPCA District premiership last season, had been training with new Heat skipper James Nanopoulos in recent weeks.

The Heat wanted him and Nagel was keen.

So, after informing Rosebud coach Lyle House and captain Billy Quigley, he’s officially a Heat player, ready to test himself at the high level.

Frankston Peninsula assistant coach Peter Buchanan said the club was thrilled to secure such a promising player.

“He’s ready to go, he looks all right actually,” he said.

“I reckon he’s going to be a good seamer. I reckon turf will suit him because he bowls that good length and hits the seam, nips it around.”

Nagel took 33 wickets, at 12.27, for Rosebud in 2017-18 after taking 28 wickets, at 14, the season prior.

He can also bat, having scored handy runs in the Sharks’ middle order.

Buchanan said Nagel’s commitment was exactly what Frankston Peninsula wants: the best young local talent joining the Premier club.

“It’s just a good look,” Buchanan said.

“It’s like when Matty Prosser came last season, it’s just good for Frankston and the MPCA.

“A lot of these guys come and they’re given the opportunity.”

Fellow MPCA players Matt Kennedy (Delacombe Park) and Nick Taranto (Tyabb) also look like joining the Heat this season.

As does West Gippsland player Kiefer Peries, from Clyde.

Meanwhile, Nick Mann will captain Frankston Peninsula’s 2nd XI.

The 25-year-old has played eight seasons with the Heat, including 11 First XI games.

“He’s captained some sides in the UK and we’ve decided to go down a different path and give him a crack,” Buchanan said.

Frankston Peninsula’s main recruits are Nanopoulos and Jacques Augustin from Dandenong and Camberwell Magpies club champion Akshay Kodoth.

The Heat’s main losses are Harrison Barnes (University), Aidan Wheeler (Prahran) and keeper Mackenzie Gardner (Seaford Tigers).
