The Big V has a point to prove when Over 50s state cricket roars to life this week.

Victoria will host South Australia at Jubilee Park, Frankston — home of Premier Cricket club Frankston Peninsula — on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Two state games, featuring 1st XI and 2nd XI outfits, will be played on both days, from 11am.

Nearly 50 players will be representing Victoria.

South Australia well and truly holds bragging rights over the Vics.

The Silverbacks have won the past three contests in Adelaide, Mt Gambier and Mildura.

But Victoria has selected a strong squad, featuring a former Shield player and local legends, and will go in confident.

Former Victorian Sheffield Shield batsman Brendan Ricci will line-up in the Big V side.

Ricci played 250 District games with Ringwood and Melbourne Uni and scored 7651 runs, with 11 tons. He played for Victoria in the mid-1990s.

The Victorian side will also include local Mornington Peninsula players Chris McDonough, Shane Beggs and Henry Dolphin.

Endeavour Hills champion Richard Saniga will also play for the Vics.

South Australia will be captained by Richard Gabb, while Anthony Telfer will lead the Division 2 team.

Gabb has been in devastating form in his first season playing with the Adelaide Ezy’s in the state SAVCA competition.
