Officer Cricket Club’s under-17 female side has released a fun video highlighting the value of friendship in cricket.
To the tune of Toy Story's “You’ve got a friend in me’’, the girls whack a cricket ball — virtually — to each other after their coach Kim Isaacs speaks of the benefits of cricket to the community.
The girls play some sweet shots in backyards, paddocks and ovals.
“In times like these everything’s really tough and I think sport really brings people together,’’ Isaacs said.
“You know you’ve got someone in your corner and our Officer girls are here to show you it’s not just about winning, it’s also about being involved in something more than just a game of cricket and that their friendships mean a hell of a lot to them as well.’’
It comes as West Gippsland Cricket Association ramps up its efforts to develop a pathway for female cricket.
Plans are in place to stage a series of All Stars Carnival days before Christmas.
In January, it’s hoped a female competition — made up of two divisions — will be fixtured.
All WGCA clubs are urged clubs to put together teams and ensure as many girls as possible play.
West Gippsland cricket hopes to recruit girls who have missed winter sports and are looking for a team sport option over summer.
It is pushing the social side of cricket.
“Waiting to bat may be the only place we can chat to that many mates at the same time,’’ the association said.
