Bobby Wilson has revealed the secret behind his record-breaking run of three consecutive centuries for Sorrento in MPCA Provincial.

“If anything I’ve probably kept it more simple,” the Sharks skipper said.

“(Former Victorian batsman) Gerard Clarke comes down and does a bit of batting coaching every now and again and he’s just said a few things that have made me think...(such as), ‘strip it back and keep your eyes level’, and all that.

“Last weekend is probably the best I’ve batted in a while.”

Wilson cracked 100 to guide Sorrento to victory against Baden Powell on Saturday. That followed scores of 105no and 129 — making him the first player in Sorrento Cricket Club’s history to score a hat-trick of tons.

“I’ve had a bit of luck, I’ve been dropped once in each innings the last three innings,’’ Wilson said.

“That always helps.

“They’re coming off alright.”

But it’s not the first time Wilson has peeled off three successive centuries in his run-filled career.

He did it while playing with Moorooduc in the 2011-12 season — belting 110, 142no (against Sorrento) and 185no.

And what a career the 34-year-old has had — in all levels of cricket he’s notched 38 centuries since his maiden ton in school cricket for Mornington High.

Wilson’s first century in club cricket was a double ton in Moorooduc’s seconds at the age of 15.

He’s now scored 20 First XI tons.

MPCA: SLEDGE PUTS PLAYER IN HOSPITAL

Sorrento legend and long-serving First XI scorer Geoff Morgan has watched some brilliant batsmen plunder runs for the Sorras, including Anthony Blackwell and Nick Jewell, and says Wilson’s batting has been elite.

“He’s played some great shots,” Morgo said.

“It’s a hell of record to have that.”
