Mornington Peninsula Cricket Association is aiming for a November 13 start but has put in place several other options if Covid-19 interferes with the season.

The MPCA presented clubs with a range of scenarios for 2021-22 as local cricketers edge closer to playing.

MPCA officials have outlined several possible fixtures, the first starting with Round 1 on Saturday, November 13.

This would allow six weekends of play before a three-week break at Christmas.

The last game before the Christmas break would be on December 18. The season would resume on January 15.

Semi-finals would be on March 12 and grand finals on March 19.

There would be a reserve day on March 20 and a spare weekend on March 26-27.

If the season was to start on November 20, there would only be a two-week break at Christmas.

If the season started on November 27 the reserve weekend would be taken away.

January 29 would be latest the season could start.

Seven games in all competitions will constitute a season, but teams must play all other teams once (with the exception of Sub District).

As long as seven games are played, premierships, promotion and relegation will stand.

This is across all grades, including competitions that have more than eight sides.

Cricket Victoria has declared that matches will be permitted once the state’s 80 per cent double dose Covid vaccine target is reached – estimated by the state government to be November 5.

The 2021-22 MPCA season will be played as a 14 game one-day competition.

Rounds one to seven will be white clothing/red ball and rounds eight to 14 and finals will be played in coloured clothing/white ball format as per 2020-21.

Meanwhile, the MPCA has brought in two new rules for 2021-22.

In the event of an active thunderstorm or electrical storm play should stop and not resume less than 30 minutes after the last visual lightning strike.

There is a new forfeit rule. Any club that plans to forfeit a match must notify the league admin manager and the opposition club by the following times; Saturday games – by 6pm on Friday night, midweek games – by 12 noon on game day, Sunday games – by 6pm Saturday night.

Failure to do so will incur a fine of $100 plus any umpire costs.

In other news, Baden Powell player Craig Entwistle has taken on the role of MPCA treasurer.

And Balnarring’s Cameron Price is MPCA head of junior pennant.

At the MPCA junior pennant meeting last Wednesday it was confirmed there would be a Wednesday night Under-12 competition and an Under-14 Saturday morning comp.

MPCA fixtures:

Round 1:

Provincial: Baden Powell v Baxter, Long Island v Langwarrin, Sorrento v Red Hill, Old Peninsula v Mt Eliza.

Peninsula: Moorooduc v Rosebud, Somerville v Flinders, Seaford Tigers v Mornington, Heatherhill v Pines.
