Mornington Peninsula Cricket Association is hoping to start season 2021-22 on November 13.
If community sport is allowed to start training on October 26, when 70 per cent of Victoria’s eligible population is forecast to be double-vaccinated, cricketers would have about two weeks of preparation for a mid-November start.
But cricket and other sports would need the OK to move from training to playing.
“That’s where we are heading,” MPCA president Stephen Morone said on Monday.
“This is subject to the next 48 hours because we don’t know.”
Whether or not cricketers will need to prove they’ve been vaccinated in order to play is yet to be determined.
Last season began on November 14 and all games were played under one-day conditions.
This season is shaping up similarly.
Cricket Victoria was planning to hold talks with the State Government as it tries to plan the start of the 2021-22 season.
The MPCA will meet with its clubs on Wednesday night to discuss possible playing dates for a summer of cricket.
Earlier this month, the MPCA board announced the 2021-22 season would be played as a 14 game one day competition.
Rounds one to seven will be white clothing/red ball, while rounds eight to 14 — and finals — will be played in a coloured clothing/white ball format as per 2020-21.
“There will be flexibility required within the fixture to ensure we complete a season,” the MPCA said.
