The MPCA says a mixture of one-day and two-day games could be played in a COVID shortened 2020-21 season.
It has also identified February as a likely cut off if there is no play by then.
It comes as Cricket Australia outlined match-day protocols, including measures that will make the game “a lot different to what everyone is used to”.
There are going to be some onerous tasks and jobs for volunteers, players and umpires that are going to have to be completed on a weekly basis — including captains having to clean the ball every few overs with an antimicrobial wipe.
MPCA president Stephen Morone has told clubs in an email the season will look different to previous years.
“We truly believe that some form of cricket can be played if we are all committed, flexible and adaptable,’’ he said.
Morone added: “If the season does not get underway till February next year we will not have a competitive season as we know it’’.
Representative cricket might also be given the flick if the season starts late.
“Of course, there is plenty of speculation in regards to when we are likely to see a return to community sport…i.e. Dates, what it will look like, Training Numbers, Playing restrictions, Are Spectators going to be allowed etc.,’’ Morone said.
“Please be assured that we are continuing to liaise with our peak bodies in Cricket Australia, Cricket Victoria and Local Government decision makers…’’
It was also announced the MPCA annual general meeting would be held online on Wednesday, October 7, at 7pm.
