The wheels are in motion.
Devon Meadows Cricket Club held a forum on Monday to discuss the pros and cons of a possible move to the Mornington Peninsula Cricket Association.
It’s common knowledge the Panthers haven’t been entirely happy in the West Gippsland association.
There’s been talk of a move for some time.
Devon Meadows president Mick Floyd confirmed the club was “weighing up options” but said there was still a long way to go before a decision was made.
He said it was crucial his club’s members were in total agreement.
“We’ve got to go through a process at club level,” Floyd said.
“It’s not a 12 month thing, it’s not a try before you buy sort of thing.
“If we make a move it’s got to be all in, it’s for long term, so we don’t want to get three months in and get buyers regret.
“We have to be sure about it and go through the process to make sure every aspect of the club is on board and we have to make the move for all the right reasons.”
Devon Meadows would slot into the Sub District division of the MPCA, against sides like Tyabb, Pearcedale, Rye and Tootgarook.
It’s understood Devon Meadows club members were positive about the prospect of change during a two-hour meeting on Monday night.
The Panthers first approached the MPCA in March.
Devon Meadows fielded five senior sides, with four of them makings grand finals, as well as a full compliment of junior teams last season.
The MPCA hasn’t had a club join its ranks since Carrum did so in 1999.
