Enquiries have been made.

West Gippsland Cricket Association club Devon Meadows has sent an email to the Mornington Peninsula Cricket Association asking about the possibility of it joining it next season.

“We are weighing up options, seeing what’s out there,” Devon Meadows president Mick Floyd said.

“A couple of guys on the committee suggested we should be at least seeing what options are around.

“That’s about the extent of it at this stage.”

Floyd chose not to reveal the reasons for his club’s decision to look around although it’s understood the Panthers have been frustrated by decisions made by the WGCA.

He said contact with the MPCA was nothing more than “a fact finding” exercise.

“I sent an email off to Ian (MPCA general manager Ian Benson), asking what the MPCA’s view on it was and where they see us fitting in,” Floyd said.

“Really, that’s probably the first step.

“We’re not actively looking to leave the West Gippsland Cricket Association, it’s just a bit of a fact finding exercise and understanding what else is out there if the membership decided to make a move.”

Devon Meadows’ football club plays in the Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League and its junior football club plays in the Frankston league.

It’s understood Devon Meadows and MPCA officials will meet for discussions in the coming week.

Devon Meadows has enjoyed plenty of success this season.

It already has three senior sides — seconds, thirds and fifths — in grand finals, while the Panthers’ 1st XI are playing Officer in a preliminary final on Saturday to try and get into the District flag decider.

The club’s under-12s are also in the grand final.

The last club to join the MPCA was Carrum in 1999. Seaford Tigers joined the MPCA in 1994.
