Springvale South has put down another brick in the road to a successful 2021-22 season, signing former Premier allrounder Blade Baxter.

The left-armer joins former Victorian quickie Jayde Herrick and ex-Casey South Melbourne paceman Josh Dowling as recruits for the Turf 1 club in the Dandenong District association.

Baxter is coming off two seasons in the Subbies with Ormond.

In March he lifted the Monders into the grand final by knocking over Brighton’s classy top-order in the semi-final, grabbing 4-12 off eight overs.

He finished the campaign with 22 wickets at 15.2.

Baxter played only nine matches the previous season due to a hand injury.

He brings to Harold Rd the experience of 79 Premier First XI matches, which brought him 130 wickets at 23.20 and 489 runs at 18.80.

There were 63 matches at St Kilda, where he made his debut in 2012-13, and 16 more with the Tigers.

A haul of 7-20 with Richmond was his best in Premier ranks and he also had an innings of 80.

Baxter is familiar with the DDCA: he played as a marquee man with Berwick and Cranbourne in the Twenty20 competition.

“Delighted to welcome a player of Blade’s quality to our club,’’ president Jason Quirk said this afternoon.

“He brings not only great experience at Premier and Sub District level but a point of difference with his left-arm pace and aggressive middle-order batting.’’

Baxter is playing for PINT in the Darwin league, making runs and taking wickets.

The Springvale South bowling attack will be a formidable proposition for the opposition next season, with Matt Wetering, Herrick, Dowling and Baxter providing pace and Dandenong premiership player Akshat Buch and Jarryd Straker quality left-arm spin.

The Bloods remain on the hunt for a batsman, wanting to replace Nathan King and Clint Tomlinson.
