The owner of a Dandenong South vegan chocolate company has copped a whopper fine after a road rage incident caused him to collide with another car.
Richard Kordos, 48, pleaded guilty in the Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court on July 29 to unlawful damage and possessing a prohibited weapon.
The court heard Kordos, of Mt Waverley, was cut off by another driver on the Monash Freeway on March 31, before he followed the driver off the freeway on the Huntingdale Rd exit.
Kordos was tailgating the victim’s car before he collided with it a short time later.
Both he and the victim pulled over and exchanged details while police also attended the scene.
A vehicle search revealed an extendible baton and a large hunting knife in Kordos’ car.
In court on Monday Kordos’ lawyer John Marquis said his client admitted he “should never have followed the car”.
The court heard Kordos was diagnosed with PTSD following various negative incidents that occurred prior to the accident, causing him to be “very cautious of other people’s driving”.
Mr Marquis told the court Kordos was “incredibly remorseful” for the offending.
Magistrate Angela Bolger said Kordos had found himself in a “very serious situation”.
“I don’t find much justification in your explanation that you’re somebody who has had such dreadful experiences in the past that you are now hyper vigilant,” she said.
“It doesn’t justify road rage.”
Ms Bolger fined Kordos $5000 with conviction.
