LANGWARRIN South farmers Eva and Janos Barabas have hatched a plan for a well-earned retirement.

The pair will close their farm, Nirvana Eggs, and sell their much loved chooks after a quarter of a century supplying the region with free-range eggs seven days a week.

“This will be our first New Year’s Day since opening, that we will have a chance to sleep in,” said Eva.

“We can’t wait to get out and go fishing,” said Janos.

“We haven’t really seen Victoria. We’ve never seen the Great Ocean Rd.

“And can’t wait to go to Sovereign Hill.”

But D-Day is less than a month away, and they hope to rehome their well-cared-for feathered friends by then.

“We are accredited by FreePAC, the Free Range Egg and Poultry Association, which is much stricter than the RSPCA,” said Eva.

“We have some families who bring their kids here with a picnic, to watch the chooks run around,” said Janos.

“We hope that we sell the chickens to good homes. They have had nice lives and we would like to see that continue,” said Eva.

The doors to Nirvana Eggs are officially closing on October 22.

They will continue to open every day until then and have 4,000 chooks available to rehome for $10 each.
