THE STREAKER who dashed across the ground in the Mornington Peninsula Nepean football grand final has set up a GoFundMe page to help pay the $900 fine he copped.

And it’s working — as of today, his supporters have rallied and chipped in $558.

“If you got a giggle out of the nudie run and have a few spare bucks feel free to chick (sic) in for the fine,’’ Mt Eliza carpenter Lucas Garth wrote on the page. “If you don’t, I hope you enjoyed the show anyway haha cheers legends.’’

Footage of his naked run in front of 8000 spectators was posted on social media and had almost 100,000 views in one forum.

Garth cheekily bolted away from sluggish security guards on the ground. But he was eventually caught on the wing by the Winx of security officials, prompting the field umpire to theatrically signal holding the ball.

Garth told Leader he had never had so much fun and his only regret was he didn’t see the speedy security guard coming from behind.

“I was only in second gear at that stage,’’ he said. “If I knew he was coming I would have put my foot down. I was doing a bit of showboating. I’d taken my foot off the accelerator, that’s for sure, and he (the security officer) absolutely smoked me from behind.’’

Garth went to the grand final with friends and was mingling with Pines supporters on the “Frankston hill’’ when he heard someone talking about a “nudie run’’.

He said he immediately thought it would be a good idea and enlisted help. Other spectators surrounded him as he took off his clothes and waited for one of the teams to kick a goal and create a break in play.

He had a false start when Sorrento kicked a point, climbing on the fence but having to retreat. Garth said he worried he had blown his chance.

“So was I was standing there starkers, waiting for the next goal. Sorrento had another shot and put it through the sticks and the rest is well documented,’’ he said.

Garth said he’d been overwhelmed by the reaction.

“I never thought it would blow up like it has,’’ he said. “The number of people I’ve spoken to, strangers, messages on Facebook, phone calls from people who got my number, they’re like, ‘It was hilarious, you’re a legend’,’’ he said.

“I’ve done a couple of nudie runs before but this was definitely the most public one!

“I’m so glad I did it because people thought it was so funny. Everyone was really nice about it. After I got caught the coppers were awesome, the security people were awesome. Everyone could see the funny side of it.

“If it was up to me I’d do it again in a heartbeat. It was so much fun. People take things too seriously these days. It’s time to relax a little bit and have a laugh.’’
