MAN SENTENCED FOR DRINK-DRIVING ACCIDENT THAT PARALYSED HIM
Tegan Mumford pleaded guilty to drink-driving and learner traffic offences at Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
She wasn’t showing L-plates nor did she have a fully licensed driver with her when she crashed.
The court heard the Richmond childhood educator had been out with mates on April 22 this year.
At around 2am she was driving a Holden Commodore when she lost control at a Narre Warren roundabout.
The inexperienced driver panicked; she hit two parked cars before veering through a fence and crashing into another vehicle.
Police attended and she was taken to Casey Hospital for observation.
Blood was taken and she recorded a reading of .159.
She told officers she had been to a nightclub and then foolishly decided to drive.

In court she represented herself, with her mother and father there for support.
She said she had disappointed her parents and had taken out a $20,000 loan to pay for all the damage.
Magistrate Jack Vandersteen said Mumford had made a terrible mistake, and as expensive as it was, it could have been much worse.
“You had been drinking, you weren’t licensed and shouldn’t have been in a car,” Mr Vandersteen said
“It is restricted to property damage; if you had of killed someone, you would have been looking at many years in jail.”
Mumford was fined $600 and disqualified from driving for 15 months.
