A DRUNK who drove to a servo to fill up on petrol was so fuelled up on vodka he couldn’t work the bowser, a court has heard.

And on another occasion he was caught by police driving the morning after a massive drinking session, blowing nearly four times the legal limit.

Twenty-eight-year-old Sean Asley Gonzalez pleaded guilty to two separate drink-driving charges at Dandenong Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The court heard on April 1 last year he had been drinking with friends at a house in Malvern.

After downing his first beverage at around 8pm, he had his last at around 1am.

The morning after he was seen by police in Churchill Park Drive, Endeavour Hills and pulled over.

At around 11am he registered a reading of .185; his car was impounded and his licence suspended on the spot.

Yet just six months later, on October 8, he was seen by a witness attempting to fuel his car at a Stud Rd, Rowville servo.

He had tried to insert the nozzle into the filler, failed, got back into his car, drove forward a few feet and tried again.

In the meantime police had been called and they saw him on CCTV haplessly trying to fuel his ride, before then struggling to pay at the counter.

Officers saw an empty bottle of vodka on the floor of the vehicle, and asked him to accompany them to the station for a breath test.

Despite originally agreeing, he then refused, as he was “too drunk”.

He represented himself in court, saying he had a “very bad drinking habits” and drank a couple of bottles of wine every second or third day.

He said he had personal issues and had suffered with mental problems.

Magistrate Jack Vandersteen said Gonzalez obviously had a big problem with alcohol, considering the morning after a drinking night he was nearly four times over.

“Almost ten hours later you were still at .185; you would have been around .3 (after your last drink) and that’s a lot,” Mr Vandersteen said.

“On the other occasion you were unable to do a simple thing (fuel a car).

“You certainly need assistance.”

Gonzalez was placed on a two-year community corrections order, with alcohol and mental health counselling components.

He was also banned from driving for two years.
