In the hours leading up to his tragic death Luke Smith cuddled his great nephews and stirred the pasta for his favourite niece Jemma ‘Little Foot’ Kurzbock.

The visit to the Carrum Downs family was the first time Mr Smith had seen his niece in about a year.

He left about 6.30pm, promising to come back later that night.

Less than two hours later he was dead, killed after his motorcycle hit another car on Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road, not far from Casey Central.

His shocking death has devastated Ms Kurzbock who was still trying to piece together what happened.

“We may never know,” Ms Kurzbock said.

“But I want people to know that he wasn’t just another d’’’head motorcyclist.

“He lived his life differently, was always popping in and out of my life. But he had the biggest heart.

“He was my favourite. He called me Little Foot from The Land Before Time.”

Ms Kurzbock was grateful to have been able to see her uncle one last time.

“He told me that he did regret some things in his life but he wouldn’t go back and change anything. He said he was happy.

“Obviously I’m devastated he’s gone and I’ll always miss him, but I’m so glad he was happy when his time came.”

Ms Kurzbock has spoken to the first person on the scene of the smash and was thankful her uncle did not die alone.

“He was alive and they did all they could to save him.

“I don’t know everything that happened in the lead up to the accident, but I know he didn’t take his own life and that gives me peace.”

Ms Kurzbock said Mr Smith was scheduled to work later the night he died.

“He said he had a shift at 3am, at Cranbourne Racecourse.”

Mr Smith leaves behind his father Gary Smith, stepmother Sue Smith and seven siblings.

Most live in Queensland where his ashes will ultimately be sent.

Mr Smith was one of three men, including two motorcyclists, killed on Melbourne roads on Friday night.

Another man died on Saturday afternoon after his car hit a tree and rolled on Maroondah Highway in Healesville.
