An angry, hungry hoon who scared his former partner witless by threatening to drive their car into a power pole has been jailed.
Michael Thomas Wilson yelled and verbally abused the terrified woman, and mother of their child, telling her he was going to kill her in a horrific crash.
The Seaford 40-year-old also breached bail and court orders just one day after being released from jail by attending the woman’s mum’s house.
Wilson pleaded guilty to numerous charges including assault at the online Frankston Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
The court heard on August 24 this year the pair had a heated argument over their son’s clothing.
They got in his car and while on their way to Frankston Wilson stopped at a KFC in Carrum Downs, angrily honking his horn because he was impatient while waiting for his food.
When he realised he didn’t have any money he drove off without his order, accelerating aggressively and shouting “f*** it”, abusing the woman and saying “I’m going to drive this car into a pole”.
When they arrived at their destination she told a support worker who rang police, and officers came and arrested Wilson.
He initially denied putting the woman in fear, which constituted the assault charge, saying they had “a toxic relationship” and “always argued”.
After spending 10 days on remand he was bailed on September 2.
But just one day later he went to the woman’s mother’s house and demanded to see her.
Wilson was asked to leave but refused, police again attended and he was again arrested and remanded.
He was on a community corrections order for a reckless causing injury crime at the time.
His defence lawyer said he had substance abuse issues and “extreme and intense mood swings”, which he had medication for, but sometimes neglected to take because it made him feel drowsy.
She said Wilson, of Fijian descent, had homelessness problems, little support in Australia and had gone to the woman’s mother’s house because he had nowhere to stay.
Magistrate Vicky Prapas said he had “an appalling history”.
“You subjected her to violence, made her fearful for her safety,” Ms Prapas said.
“She would have been very scared.
“People come to the court for protection, I need to send a strong message that people who committ crimes are going to be punished.”
Wilson was jailed for a total of four months, minus 53 days he had spent in custody.
He was also convicted and fined $1000.
