A YOUNG female paramedic has been punched in the face in a vicious road rage attack following a minor collision in Somerville, police allege.
It came just weeks after the State Government passed new laws to impose mandatory custodial sentences on anyone who assaults an emergency worker.

About 7.25pm on November 1, a 23-year-old Cranbourne woman wearing her trainee paramedic uniform was driving along Bungower Rd when she was involved in a minor collision.
The Leader understands the driver of the other vehicle — a 21-year-old Somerville man — got out of his car and allegedly smashed one of the woman’s side windows and mirrors.
Police allege when the woman got out of the car the man punched her in the face, seriously injuring her.
“The woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries,” a Victoria Police spokeswoman told the Leader.
The man has been hit with a raft of charges, including intentionally cause and recklessly cause serious injury, unlawful assault, assault emergency worker, criminal damage, wilful damage, theft, possess drug of dependence and possess controlled weapon.
He’s been remanded to appear at Frankston Magistrates’ Court on November 9.
