TWO cyclists have come to blows on the Nepean Highway in Seaford in a frightening road rage attack that left one rider nursing a black eye and bloody lip.

Paul, who declined to give his surname, had CT scans taken of his facial injuries this morning but won’t know if there are any fractures for another 24 hours.

He said he was riding behind a pack of around 12 cyclists heading towards Frankston about 8.45am on Sunday, when another rider cut him off and almost knocked him of his bike.

The rogue cyclist corralled Paul across the road into the gutter and launched a sickening attack, punching him in the face and knocking him to the ground before hitting him another five or six times.

“It was more of a shock that he became so aggressive so quickly,” he said.

He said a woman riding passed yelled at the attacker which caused him to stop and ride off.

Paul, a former triathlete from South Melbourne who rides this stretch of the Nepean Highway twice a week, said he had never experienced anything “remotely like it” in his 30 years of cycling.

He managed to continue riding to a public toilet block in Frankston to wash the blood off before riding back home to see his wife.

“She thought I’d been hit by a car,” he said.

He reported the incident to Frankston police when he got home but said he was told the chances of finding the rider responsible were slim.

Frankston police told Leader they were aware of an alleged assault on a cyclist by another rider in Seaford about 10.30am on May 27, but at this stage, no formal reports had been made.

Paul said he is hoping to be back on his bike by Wednesday.
