Samuel Adams appeared in the Frankston Magistrates Court on Tuesday where he pleaded guilty to careless driving, driving while suspended, possessing a controlled weapon, and running a red light.

Adams, 40, was driving his Holden Commodore on a suspended licence on June 9 in 2017 to get a late night feed from a McDonalds in Cranbourne.

After picking up his midnight feast he drove along Camms Rd in Cranbourne where he ran a red light as the road intersects with the South Gippsland Hwy.

Police attempted to intercept him but he continued driving away.

Further down Camms Rd officer Stuart Button was standing beside a stopped police car, Adams drove directly towards Officer Button at speed.

Officer Button was forced to quickly get out of the way of Adams to avoid being hit.

Adams continued driving until he turned into his driveway.

Police caught up with him and he was arrested for his careless driving.

The court heard he told police he had just wanted to get some Maccas and hadn’t seen Officer Button standing there.

In May this year Adams was spotted in the drivers seat of a stolen BMW with cloned plates.

When police searched the car they found a controlled weapon.

The court heard Adams told police he purchased the car from a friend who told him it wasn’t stolen.

The father of eight works as a shade awning installer and the court heard he had suffered a long battle with substance abuse.
