Chilling footage of two men breaking into a Hampton Park home has been released, after they impersonated police in an attempt to rob a house.

Two thugs impersonating police officers forced their way into a house in Melbourne’s southeast in the middle of the night.

The two men forced open a locked security door at the Highland Ave property in Hampton Park home at 3am on February 2.

They kicked the door down before entering the house, waking the two sleeping occupants.

In footage from the doorbell camera, the intruders identified themselves as police officers when they entered the house.

One of the residents saw the men in the hallway before they fled the property on foot.

The men also stole the doorbell camera on their way out.

Police have released an image and footage from the doorbell camera.

The man in the video can be seen wearing a ‘GEEDUP’ brand hooded windcheater and the second man was described to be in all dark clothing.

Both men are described to be in their 30s, one with an Australian accent and the other with a New Zealand accent.
