The brother of slain rapper Pal Bidong who was shot outside a Halloween rave in North Melbourne will spend more time in jail after violently assaulting his sister.
Dur Bidong, 30, was sentenced in the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on November 13 after being found guilty of assaulting his older half-sister.
Bidong’s sister was at their mother’s Mentone home on the morning of April 27, when Bidong got into a “heated argument” with one of their younger siblings.
In court documents seen by the Herald Sun, Bidong punched the victim in the face when she tried to step between her arguing brothers, causing her to fall.
When she tried to get up, Bidong hit her over the head before kicking her repeatedly and “stomping” on her multiple times.
He also bit her thigh during the brutal attack.
The court heard the victim was left with a shattered eye socket and needed reconstructive surgery to repair the damage.
In a victim impact statement read to the court, the sister said she had sustained long term issues with her sight after the assault, leaving her unable to “work, play with her daughter or with the family dog”.
“Some days I feel anger and immense sadness as I can see the damage on my face,” she wrote.
“I have trouble sleeping, I break down in tears often.”
The court heard the victim told police the attack was “completely unprovoked”, believing it was connected to Bidong’s “drug use”.
In court on Wednesday, Magistrate Frances Medina said coupled with Bidon’s prior offending, the summary was “horrific”.
“In terms of his previous offending, it happened in context when Mr Bidong and his friends were drinking and smoking cannabis,” she said.
“He got up and struck an acquaintance in the back of the head with scissors, causing injury.”
He was jailed for 22 months over the scissor attack.
Bidong’s lawyer Daniel Ajak argued for a time-served sentence, due to the recent death of Bidong’s younger brother, Pal.
“His younger brother was killed in the city two weeks ago,” Mr Ajak said.
“He wants to be there for his mum and six siblings, so he can attend the family home and help with funeral arrangements.”
Bidong’s brother Pal “Peezy” Bidong was shot and killed on November 2 in North Melbourne following a Halloween rave.
Police believe he was gunned down by a friend during a heated argument.
Ms Medina said the court had a “significant view of interpersonal violence”.
“This type of offending is not to be tolerated,” she said.
“With his significant history before the court in respect to violence, it’s important when sentencing that the court sends a strong message to Mr Bidong.”
Ms Medina sentenced Bidong to 10 months’ jail, with 163 days time reckoned as time served.
