A thug led a brutal revenge bashing at a Cranbourne North home which left a boy fighting for life with serious head and spinal injuries.
Dur Bidong, 26, was sentenced in the County Court on Wednesday to a minimum 12 months’ jail after pleading guilty to affray.
However, the serial menace could be out in less than three weeks after already spending 348 days in custody.
Bidong, armed with a pole, and “30-40 mostly African males”, attacked the Endeavour Drive home just after midnight on December 21 2017.
The court heard Bidong wanted revenge for an alleged assault on his younger brother earlier that night.
The 15-year-old victim, Zac Kupke, and his mate Aaron went to investigate after hearing a noise outside their home.
The boys saw two “males” out front then heard a whistle just before the rest of Bidong’s gang rocked up.
An unknown gang thug smashed a window and another yelled: “We’re finally here to get you c***”.
The home’s other occupants — including four young girls — locked the doors to keep the invaders out.
The boys ran back to the house but four unknown gang members savagely bashed Zac with a metal pole.
The gang fled on foot before Aaron dragged his mate back to the house.
Zac was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries including skull, facial and spinal fractures and bleeding on the brain.
Police arrested Bidong later that day.
Bidong denied involvement telling police he’d been home all night.
Investigators seized some of Bidong’s clothing and his shoes and released him without charge.
Forensic investigators made a breakthrough nine months later when they found Zac’s blood on Bidong’s shoes.
Bidong was charged on summons but arrested again for subsequent offending on November 28 2018.
The prosecution’s submission Bidong and his gang cronies had acted collectively was accepted by Judge Rosemary Carlin.
Judge Carlin said there was evidence Bidong played an “important role” in the affray.
She said witnesses saw Bidong leading his gang of “African youths” towards the home while armed with a pole.
The court heard Bidong and his gang mobilised and planned their attack via Snapchat messages and a video.
“You determined to go to someone’s home late at night for the purpose of exacting revenge,” Judge Carlin said.
“You must have known or strongly suspected that children would be present at the house.
“You were armed and accompanied by a large number of young males … clearly the arrival of you all was co-ordinated.
“You effectively ambushed the occupants and were a party to the infliction of serious injuries to a 15-year-old boy.
“The whole ordeal would’ve been terrifying,”
Judge Carlin said the victim “appears to be completely innocent” and the large number of thugs increased the “level of terror experienced by those present”.
Judge Carlin also said there was “no evidence” Bidong had shown any remorse.
The prolific thug had only been out of jail three months when he committed the affray.
Judge Carlin said Bidong has been sentenced 16 times for various violent offences which have been “increasing in severity”.
“Unfortunately, nothing has deterred you …,” Judge Carlin said.
“Unless you dramatically change your attitude you not only risk squandering the opportunity this country has afforded (but) you are (also) destined for a life in and out of prison.”
Bidong was jailed for a maximum 22 months.
