A DRUNK thug viciously punched a man, knocking him to the ground before raining blows on his head, just because he made a comment about his shoes, a court has heard.
Ian Lewington pleaded guilty to recklessly causing injury and other charges at Frankston Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
The boozed-up brute and his brother bashed the hapless victim after they had left the Mornington races because he joked about the attacker’s choice of footwear.

The court heard the 27-year-old and his brother and mates had been at the Mornington races on November 5 last year.
Afterwards they walked off down Mornington-Tyabb Rd, and started chatting with a group of men at a servo.
It was pleasant conversation until Lewington took offence at a comment about his shoes, jumping on and knocking down the victim before repeatedly punching him in the face.
He was pulled off the man and then walked away, but a bystander had videoed the attack and police were called.
They soon found Lewington, but when they tried to arrest him, he refused to tell them his name and tried, unsuccessfully, to resist arrest.
Once handcuffed he told officers he had no recollection of a fight and denied being intoxicated.
The victim, who had to be taken to Rosebud Hospital, suffered a fractured eye socket and cuts to his face in the attack.

The court heard Lewington’s brother who had also stomped on the victim has already been jailed.
His defence lawyer said Lewington had had a longstanding dependency on alcohol, and his “memory was hazy” about the attack.
He said the qualified plumber also had significant mental health issues that were being addressed.
Magistrate Dominic Lennon said the assault was “disturbing”.
“It was a prolonged and vicious attack in company,” Mr Lennon said.
“It is an extremely serious matter.”
Lewington was placed on an 18-month community corrections order, must do 150 hours of unpaid work and attend counselling.
