A TANKED teenager spat in the face of a Mornington bar manager because he thought his mate “was in trouble”, a court has heard.

The 19-year old apprentice plumber and a friend got into a fight with the bar boss after he told them to leave as they had been previously barred.

The spat over spit ended up at Frankston Magistrates’ Court yesterday, where Louis Raworth pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful assault and behaving in a riotous manner.

The court heard just after midnight on October 28 last year Raworth and his pal were at the Backyard Bar in Mornington’s Main St when they were spotted by the manager.

They had both been earlier banned from the venue for poor behaviour, and were asked to leave.

As the manager walked them out Raworth turned and spat in his face.

Once outside Raworth “shaped up” to fight him, before walking away.

He then stopped, picked up a broken glass bottle and threw it, striking the victim on the head.

The man was taken to hospital with minor injuries, while Raworth was later arrested by police.

The whole incident had been captured by the bar’s CCTV.

The Frankston teenager represented himself in court, saying that night he had had far too much to drink and had “acted stupidly”.

He said he accepted he had behaved “outrageously” and was remorseful.

He said he “thought my mate was in trouble” and that’s why he reacted violently.

The other man involved in the fracas has not yet faced court.

Magistrate Dominic Lennon said while the incident seemed out of character for Raworth, who hadn’t had any previous problems with the law, it was “very disturbing behaviour”.

Raworth was given a 12-month good behaviour bond, and must do an anger management course. No conviction was recorded.
