A desire to make everyone feel special is the reason why Debarge is so revered in the salon world, owner Paul Ricupito says.
And having several decades of experience of wielding the scissors as well as winning a swag of awards also helps him run the local styling institution with such success.
The Mt Waverley salon has just been named the best hairdresser by Monash and Dandenong voters.
Mr Ricupito said the opportunity to set up a combined salon and cafe when they moved in 2002 from their original home in Mulgrave to a bigger space in Mt Waverley was hard to resist.
“We asked clients if they liked the idea of a great cafe and they said it would be pretty cool,” he said.
“We try to provide an experience, it is all about making people feel special when they walk in and when they walk out.”
Mr Ricupito is a veteran of the hairdressing scene who is more than happy to pass on his vast knowledge.
He is part of the L’Oreal Matrix Australian Design Team and travel around Australia and the world teaching other salons and hairdressers the secrets to success and the newest and hottest styles and trends.
Mr Ricupito said the win was a nice surprise, and after the Covid lockdown situation eases, one he and his team want to repay to the community.
“Once we reopen, we will be back to having fun again,” he said.
