When Justine Swan sold her Mt Eliza salon and took a chair in Frankston her loyal customers followed.
Four years later they have helped her take the title of Frankston’s best hairdresser as voted by Leader readers.
Ms Swan, who works at Colour Collections, won the crown from a field of 12 nominees.
It’s the second consecutive year a hairdresser from the Wells Street salon has been named Frankston’s best.
The 2020 winner was Rebecca Wood.
Ms Swan said speedy service and a longstanding relationship with her clients helped her stand out.
“I know people don’t want to spend hours sitting at the hairdresser. Even though I love to chat with my clients and think of them more as friends than customers I work as quickly as possible.”
The Frankston South resident has “grown up” with her customers, sharing milestones by styling their hair for weddings and helping them find cuts and colours to suit their changing needs.
She said lockdowns had to been challenging for her hairdressing family, especially older people who enjoyed weekly visits to the salon.
“I have customers who have been coming to me for 30 years. They love their weekly blow dry and have been lost without that routine.”
Ms Swan said winning votes from her customers meant as much as taking first place in industry competitions.
“I have travelled the world competing in hair competitions. I came first place in London, Japan and Korea and coached the Australian World Cup Hair team to victory.”
