Crime Wrap: hunt continues for train sex creep, driver of ute involved in fatal crash urged to come forward

Police hunt a creep who showed porn to a 10-year-old child on a train, and the driver of a ute believed to be involved in a fatal crash with a motorcyclist in Somerville is urged to come forward in this week’s southeast crime wrap.

GREATER DANDENONG:

Dandenong

Police continue to hunt a man who allegedly showed pornography to a child, 10, on a train. Transit Crime Investigation Unit officers were told the man asked the boy to sit next to him on the Pakenham-Cranbourne line Melbourne-bound train on January 24. It is believed he showed the boy pornographic images on his phone. The incident happened between Sandown and Oakleigh stations about 11.20am. Police believe the man got on at Dandenong. He is of Asian appearance, about 50, and was wearing a blue cap, blue short-sleeved shirt, blue jeans and runners.

A woman was photographed in Dandenong South using a cordless drill to steal a set of number plates from a car in broad daylight. Police allege about 5.50pm on February 13 a ute pulled up behind a car parked in Quantum Cl. A female passenger reached out of the ute and removed the plate. CASEY:

Pearcedale

Two men assaulted and robbed a Pearcedale man in two separate attacks in January and February — one including running him over with their car. On January 20 about 8pm it is believed the two men approached the victim outside his East Rd home and punched him in the face before stealing cash from his car. The men then fled in a SUV driven by a third man. The same two men returned to the property on February 17 in a silver Nissan sedan and smashed the victim’s car windscreen before stealing cash from inside the car. As the men drove away, they crashed into a fence before driving into the victim and injuring him. Information to Crime Stoppers.

Narre Warren

A Hampton Park teen, 15, has been charged in relation to an alleged assault and robbery in Narre Warren on February 18. Casey Crime Investigation Unit detectives were told the victim, a boy, 15, was walking towards a shopping centre on Overland Drive with a friend about 4pm when they were approached by a group of youths. It’s alleged one of the youths assaulted the victim before stealing his mobile phone. The offender was charged with robbery and bailed to appear at a children’s court at a later date.

Cranbourne

Drugs and cash were seized from a Cranbourne house on March 1. Joint Task Force Icarus detectives found ecstasy and a large sum of cash at the Macey St property before arresting a Cranbourne man, 22, at the scene. The man was charged with the offences and remanded to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates Court at a later date. Joint Task Force Icarus is comprised of personnel drawn from Victoria Police, AFP and Australian Border Force.

A dangerous motorbike rider carrying a passenger in a sidecar while trying to evade police from Frankston North to Crib Point has ended up in hospital — and under arrest. Somerville Highway Patrol saw the motorbike speeding on Frankston-Dandenong Rd on March 1 about 3.30am. Officers failed to pull the bike over on Cranbourne Rd, Frankston, and it continued on to Moorooduc, Hastings and Mt Martha. Witnesses may have seen it on Peninsula Link, Moorooduc Hwy and Nepean Hwy and at one point crossing to the wrong side of the road. It’s believed the pillion passenger was dropped off near South Beach Rd before the rider abandoned the bike on Crib Rd and fled on foot. A short time later, police arrested a Crib Point man, 33, on Creswell St.

Somerville

Police are urging the driver of a ute to come forward after a motorcyclist died in a Somerville smash on February 25. Witnesses reported seeing a white, older model Holden ute driving erratically on Bungower Rd about 4pm. About 4.45pm on Tyabb-Tooradin Rd, police believe the same ute may have been involved in the fatal collision, killing the bike rider, who was believed to be in his 50s. Witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage is urged to phone Crime Stoppers.

KINGSTON:

Cheltenham

Police are investigating a suspicious fire in a vacant two-storey house. It is believed the fire started shortly before 1am on March 4 on the second storey of the Farm Rd house. MFB crews arrived to find the house fully alight and brought the blaze under control in 23 minutes. Police and paramedics also attended.

Moorabbin

A good Samaritan helped prevent a road rage incident between two Audi drivers from escalating in St Kilda on January 31. About 1pm a man driving a white Audi deliberately blocked a woman in a black Audi on Woodstock St. The pair were arguing before a bystander intervened. The Moorabbin Family Violence Unit wishes to speak to the man. Call 9556 6321 or Crime Stoppers.

Cheltenham

An Endeavour Hills man, 37, was capsicum sprayed before being charged over offences including threatening police with a knife. It is alleged on March 7 the man stole alcohol from a shopping centre at Cheltenham about 11.30am before trying to steal a police car with the knife. Police sprayed him and he ran down Nepean Hwy and tried to get in another two cars before being caught. The man was charged with nine offences including assault on an emergency worker, assault with a weapon and theft. He was remanded.
